Kelley-Lusk's Golden Goal Lift Lady Buffs over UT Tyler
TYLER, Texas – Hannah Kelley-Lusk's golden goal in the final minute of the first overtime period helped No. 21 West Texas A&M avoid an upset to UT Tyler on Saturday afternoon in Tyler. The Lady Buffs escaped with a 5-4 victory to improve to 8-2-0 on the season and 4-1-0 in Lone Star Conference play.
The Lady Buffs saw themselves down a goal in the opening three minutes after Jordan Colbert controlled a free kick in the box before slotting her right footed shot into the back of the net. The Lady Buffs responded with an equalizer in the 9
th minute on
Emily Avila's fifth goal of the season. The junior sent her free kick from more the 40 yards out over the outstretched hands of UT Tyler's Camri Cecil.
It was a 2-1 lead in favor of WT a minute later on
Alex Jurado's second penalty kick in the past two games.
Maliyah Mendoza was the player that earned the penalty after being tripped on her way to a cross.
Kelley-Lusk doubled the lead in the 17
th minute as the Patriots were unable to clear a free kick from Avila. The senior brought down a headed ball on her right foot and created enough space to deposit the ball into the side of the net.
