Chaps Shutout No. 6 Buffaloes in Lone Star Conference Opener

LUBBOCK, Texas – West Texas A&M men's soccer fell to Lubbock Christian on Saturday night as the Chaps defeated the No. 6 Buffaloes in a 3-0 shutout.

The Buffs dropped the Lone Star Conference opener to move to 7-2-0 overall while LCU moved to 4-4-0.  Saturday's match marks the first time the Buffs were shutout since March 2, 2021 against Texas A&M International in a 1-0 match.

Despite the Buffs having an 8-3 shot advantage, Lubbock Christian led 2-0 at the half with goals by Luca Hollenstein and Hector Rodriguez-Cabo.  The Chaps drew the foul for Hollenstein to take the free kick where the sophomore netted his second goal of the season.  LCU doubled their lead as Rodriguez-Cabo converted the penalty in the 40th-minute.

LCU added their final score to the board in the 64th minute as the Chaps opened scoring in the second half to advance their lead, 3-0.

The Buffs had 11 shots on the night with just two on frame from Ben Siri and Sean Ryan.  Two keepers saw time between the post for the Buffs with Jacob Plaster and Tom Miles each registering 45:00 minutes while Plaster earned the start.

WT will return to The Pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 13 as they welcome UT Tyler (5-3-1, 1-0 LSC) with kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
