Lady Buffs Return to Win Column, Defeat Eastern New Mexico 3-2

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M returned to win the column on Wednesday evening with a 3-1 victory over rival Eastern New Mexico at The Pitch in Canyon. The Lady Buffs improved to 10-5-0 on the season and 6-4-0 in Lone Star Conference play wearing their red jerseys and socks on ALS Awareness Night.

WT finished the game with 36 shots, 18 of those on-target, led by the game-high nine from Asha James. Daniela Estrada made four saves in her first start in goal since Sept. 5.

Hannah Kelley-Lusk scored her 19th of the season and 50th of her career in the 5th minute to give the Lady Buffs an early lead. Maliyah Mendoza beat her defender down the right side before finding Kelley-Lusk, who needed just one touch to send the ball into the back of the net and become the second player in program history to reach the 50-goal plateau.

ENMU would tie the game at 1-all seven minutes later when Kelsey Medina scored off her own rebound. Emily Avila's eighth goal of the season would help the Lady Buffs retake the lead in the 23rd minute. Mendoza was once again credited with the assist after finding a wide-open Avila just inside the penalty area.

The Lady Buffs continued to attack the Greyhound goal but were unable to find a third until the 77th minute. James got a pass from Kelley-Lusk before weaving through the ENMU defense and depositing the ball into the back of the net for her 11th of the season.

The Lady Buffs start their two-game road trip on Saturday, Oct. 30, with a trip to St. Mary's. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
