#15 Lady Buffs Roll Past St. Edward's, Win Their Eighth Straight

CANYON, Texas – The #15 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M ran their win streak to eight games on Tuesday as strong defensive pressure for the second straight night lifted WT to a 72-38 Lone Star Conference crossover victory over the St. Edward's Hilltoppers at the First United Bank Center in Canyon.
 
Lexy Hightower led the way for the Lady Buffs as the senior went 9-of-14 from the floor and 2-of-2 from behind the arc for a game-high 20 points to go along with three rebounds, one assists, one steal and two blocks. Braylyn Dollar finished the night going 5-of-10 from the field and 3-of-3 from the charity stripe with five rebounds and two assists. 
 
The Lady Buffs went 31-of-60 (51.7%) from the floor including 4-of-11 (36.4%) from deep and 6-of-7 (85.7%) from the free throw line with 44 total rebounds (15 offensive, 29 defensive), 11 assist, 24 turnovers, 14 steals and five blocks in the win.
 
SEU was led offensively by Jazmine Jackson who went 3-of-10 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe for a team-high 11 points to go along with three rebounds and two steals. The Hilltoppers finished the game going 14-of-56 (25%) from the field including 2-of-18 (11.1%) from deep and 8-of-14 (57.1%) from the free throw line with 29 rebounds (14 offensive, 15 defensive), four assists, 22 turnovers, nine steals and three blocks.
 
KEY MOMENTS
  • The two teams struggles from the floor to start the game as they combined for nine early turnovers and just three make buckets in the first five minutes of the game
  • The Lady Buffs ended the quarter on a 6-0 run highlighted by a Sienna Lenz long ball right before the buzzer to take a 12-9 lead to the second
  • WT extended their run to 14 consecutive points, stretching their lead to 20-9
  • Hightower moved into 2nd place on WT's all-time made three pointers list (215) with 2:22 left in the opening half

The Lady Buffs took a 34-15 lead into the locker room for halftime as they went 14-of-30 (46.7%) from the field including 2-of-5 (40%) from behind the arc and 4-of-5 (80%) from the charity stripe with 20 rebounds (seven offensive, 13 defensive), three assists, 11 turnovers, nine steals and two blocks. SEU finished the half going 6-of-27 (22.2%) from the floor including 1-of-9 (11.1%) from deep and a perfect 2-of-2 from the free throw line with 17 rebounds (seven offensive, 10 defensive), two assists, 15 turnovers, four steals and two blocks.
 
COMING UP NEXT
The Lady Buffs were schedule to hit the road for LSC crossover action at The KCB in Laredo, Texas this weekend but those contests against Texas A&M International have been postponed due to COVID-19 concerns.
