Las Vegas, Nev. – West Texas A&M recorded 15 hits in a 10-2 victory over Sonoma State before falling to Northwest Nazarene 11-6 during day one of the Desert Stinger Invite on Friday night, in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Lady Buffs wasted no time as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Freshman infielder Julia Guzman made her college debut with a double to left center before scoring off a triple by
Brittany Cruz.Â
Alyx Cordell stole second base before advancing to third on a throwing error by the catcher to score Cruz. Another freshman stepped up as
Steph Elliott singled through the left side to add another run for the Lady Buffs. The Seawolves immediately responded in the top of the second as SSU cut the lead with a single to left field to bring the score within two.Â

Shanna McBroom singled to left field to score
Malaya Delfin from third to advance the Lady Buffs lead, 4-1. After two scoreless innings,
Alyx Cordell scored on
Sydney Greeson's hit up the middle to add another run before a two-run single to left field by
Shyanne Sanchez made it 7-1. SSU would get a run back as Amber Orchard sent one high and deep over the centerfield fence, but the Lady Buffs answered with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure a season opening victory.

Steph Elliott who tallied two RBI in three at bats.

Kyra Lair (1-0) earned her first win of the season on the mound going six innings allowing two runs (two earned) on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts.Â

The Nighthawks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on a two-run home run from Sidney Booth before adding five runs in the second.Â

The Lady Buffs would hit into a double play but not before a run came across the plate as

Shanna McBroom sent one deep into left field for a two-run home run in the third to cut NNU's lead 8-3.  The Lady Buffs would add two runs as
Maddie Geidel's sac fly to right field scored Cordell from third before
Sydney Greeson's singled to score

The Lady Buffs would score their final run of the game as
Julie Guzman singled to left field to score in the bottom of the fifth before the Nighthawks responded by scoring three unanswered runs to take a 11-6 victory.

Steph Elliott went 4-4 at the plate for the Maroon and White tallying one RBI while McBroom recorded three hits.

Emilee Wilson (0-1) picked up the loss for the Lady Buffs, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on five hits with four walks through one inning.Â
