CANYON, Colorado – The West Texas A&M Lady Buffs came out swinging in the 2019 Lone Star Conference opener on Friday night before falling in four sets to the rival Belles of Angelo State at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon in front of over 450 fans (25-22, 16-25, 20-25, 19-25).

WT hit .278 in the opening frame with 15 kills on 36 swings with just five attack errors to take the opening frame before cooling off offensively as they hit just .134 the last three sets while the Belles finished the night with an attack percentage of .305.

Torrey Miller continued to lead the Lady Buff on the offensive side of the net as the freshman registered 19 kills on 49 attempts with 10 errors to hit .184 on the night followed by
Selena Batiste with 14 kills,
Gabby Emery dished out 29 assists to lead all players while
Chandler Vogel registered 27 digs in the loss. WT hit .164 on the night with 49 kills on 152 swings and 24 attack errors to go along with 45 assists, four aces, 58 digs and four total blocks.

Mackenzie Griffin finished the night with 21 kills on 41 swings with six errors to hit .366 followed by Kailyn Gilbreath with 15 kills, Lindsey Ledyard (28) and Meghan Parker (27) paced the ASU offense while Makenna Hanssen led the way for the Belles with 23 digs. ASU finished the night with 59 kills on 141 swings with 16 attack errors to hit .305 as a team with 57 assists, four service aces, 67 digs and seven total blocks in the win.

The Lady Buffs look to rebound tomorrow afternoon as they host the Lady Chaps of Lubbock Christian in LSC action with first serve set for 2 p.m. at The Box in Canyon. WT Volleyball Middle School Campers are asked to wear their camp t-shirts to the match and join the Lady Buffs for an autograph session following the final set.
