CANYON, Texas – No. 9 West Texas A&M homered four times including a grand slam from Brittany Cruz in their 11-3 five inning victory over No. 6 Texas A&M-Kingsville in front of 305 fans at Schaeffer Park on Friday afternoon. After only hitting two home runs last week, the Lady Buffs hit three in the third inning along as they took game one of the Top 10 showdown.
The Lady Buffs and Javelins wrap up their Lone Star Conference weekend series on Saturday afternoon with first pitch of a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m. at Schaeffer Park. As part of Military Appreciation Weekend, WT will auction off game worn camo jerseys during Saturday's contest.

After a scoreless opening two innings, the Javelinas opened the scoring in the top of the third with a solo home run to left from Claire Chernosky. The Lady Buffs responded in a big way in the bottom half of the inning with six runs on three home runs. Miranda Grotenhuis lead off with an eight pitch walk before Kylee Moore sent one over the scoreboard in center for her 12thof the season. Following another walk to Shayne Starkey, Shanna McBroom send one deep over the black monster to make it 4-1 for the home team. Cruz picked up her first hit of the game with a single up the middle followed by the third home run of the inning with a shot to left center from Erica Vessels. 
The Lady Buffs added five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning highlighted by Cruz's second career grand slam. TAMUK made a pitching change after the first out of the inning before the bases Victoria Carrion loaded the bases for Cruz who sent a laser to the Buff Corral to make it 10-1. Kourtney Coveney would add another run as the senior scored on a wild pitch. The Javelinas rallied in the top of the fifth inning scoring two runs before Starkey forced a Matisen Onofrei ground out with the bases loaded to end the game in five innings
