CANYON, Texas – Qua Grant scorched Eastern New Mexico for a career-high 29 points as No. 4 West Texas A&M finished the regular season with a 92-79 win over the Greyhounds on Tuesday night at the First United Bank Center as part of the ESPN3 Division II Showcase. The Buffs are now 28-3 overall and 17-1 in Lone Star Conference play breaking the program record for most wins in a regular season.

It was a back-and-forth battle with 11 lead chances and three ties in the first nine minutes before WT went on a 6-0 to take a 24-19 lead. Ryan Quaid got the run started with a jumper in the face of his defender followed by a pair of free throws from Gach Gach. Brandon Hall finished the run with a breakaway layup as a result of a Greyhound turnover.Â
The Greyhounds responded with a 7-0 run to retake the lead on consecutive three-pointers from Zach Parker before WT constructed a 9-0 run of their own to make it 34-28 with 6:33 remaining in the first half. The freshman duo of Murray and Grant got the run started before Gach connected on a deep three-pointer. ENMU continued to battle back to tie the game at 36-36 on a layup from Deng Kunay at 4:40 with the Buffs responding with five straight points over the next two minutes. WT went into halftime leading 48-41 after consecutive baskets from Quaid in the final 1:30 minute.
The Buffs opened the second half on a 7-2 run to push the lead to 55-43 thanks to baskets from Hall, Gach and Joel Murray. They continued to expand the lead a few minutes later a three-pointer from the right side from Grant to make it 65-50 at 14:16. The lead would reach a game-high 16, 68-52, thanks to an acrobatic layup from Eric Mosley that was countered with a 10-0 run from ENMU over the next two minutes to cut the lead to six points.Â
Grant started another run for the Buffs after taking a defensive rebound coast-to-coast with Murray doing the same thing the next time down the floor. ENMU would go 1-of-2 from the charity stripe before Pennington made a contest layup with Grant taking advantage of a bad pass for an easy layup to make it 76-63 at 7:30. Murray sealed the game for the Buffs going 7-of-8 from the free throw line to seal the Buffs 23rdstraight win at home. Â
WT shot 33-of-69 (47.8%) from the floor, 6-of-21 (28.6%) from three-point range and 20-of-28 (71.4%) from the charity stripe with 37 rebounds with 12 assists, 10 steals and two blocks. Grant scored over 20 points for the second consecutive game finishing with 29 points going a career-best 11-of-18 from the floor while pulling down eight rebounds. Quaid scored all 15 of his in the first half with nine rebounds with two blocks with Murray (13), Hall (12) and Gach (11) all reaching double figures.Â
