#2 Buffs Start Fast But Fall to St. Mary’s in the Series Finale, 7-4

CANYON, Texas – The #2 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M plated four runs in the top of the first inning on Sunday afternoon before stranding nine base runners as they fell to the St. Mary's Rattlers in the series finale at Dickson Stadium in San Antonio, Texas.
 
The Buffs hit the road next weekend for a four game non-conference series with the UT Permian Basin Falcons starting on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Roden Field.

HOW IT HAPPENENED:
The Buffs came out swinging in the series finale as Keone Givens singled to center to leadoff the game followed by a Jake Pederson walk to put two one with nobody out, Clay Koelzer singled to center to run his hitting streak to 16 contests and load the bases before Kyle Kaufman flew out to right for the sac fly as Givens scored the game's first run. Tag Baxter singled up the middle to drive in Pederson followed by a Jaxxon Fagg base hit to load the bases again, a pair of wild pitches drove in two more WT runs to make it 4-0.
 
The Rattlers responded in the home half of the first inning as Donnie Perez doubled down the left field line to drive in Ryan McGowen followed later in the inning by a Buffalo error with two outs that scored another and cut the lead to 4-2. St. Mary's took advantage of another WT error in the bottom of the fourth inning as Patrick Fennell scored on the play before Zach Dixon forced a double-play ball to short to end the inning with WT leading 4-3.
 
St. Mary's tied the game in the bottom of the sixth as Andrew Perez singled to third base to score Colton Parrish followed by a Johnny Hernandez two-run single thru the left side with two outs and the bases loaded to give the Rattlers the 6-4 advantage. They would add an insurance run in the eighth with a Mario Vela RBI single thru the left side to score Perez to make it 7-4.
 
Brennen Geraghty picked up the loss (0-1) on the mound for the Buffs, allowing one earned run with one walk in hit 0.1 innings of relief.
