LAREDO, Texas – Khaline Jacob recorded her fourth career multi-goal game on Saturday afternoon as West Texas A&M defeated Texas A&M International 4-1 at Dustdevil Soccer Field in Laredo. The Lady Buffs improve to 7-6-0 overall and 6-3-0 in Lone Star Conference play with their second straight road win.
The Lady Buffs would score the opening goal for the seventh time this season on a shot from Marlene van Mourik. The senior handled Hannah Kelley-Lusk's through ball perfectly before beating the keeper for her second in as many games. The Dustdevils would respond with a goal of their own in the 15th minute when Maddison Schofield headed Samantha Ruiz's free kick into the back of the net.
WT would regain the lead two minutes later on Jacob's first goal of the game. The senior pounced on the rebound in front of goal after TAMIU's Elena Rivera was unable to hold onto van Mourik's shot from close range.
The Lady Buffs made it 3-1 with their first shot of the second half on Shanelle Arjoon's second of the season on an assist from Emily Avila. Daniela Estrada made one of four saves in the 63rd on another Schofield header at the near post.
Jacob would get her brace in the 73rd minute on a loose ball near the goal line after the Dustdevils had trouble clearing Maliyah Mendoza's shot from the top of the penalty area. It was her fourth goal of the season and 19th of her career moving her into a tie for 10th all-time in goals scored with Jessica Rodriguez.
WT returns to the friendly confines of The Pitch for its final two home matches of the season against Midwestern State (Oct. 31) and Oklahoma Christian (Nov. 2).
