Jacob, Kelley-Lusk Score as Lady Buffs Upset #3 Colorado-Colorado Springs

CANYON, Texas – Khaline Jacob and Hannah Kelley-Lusk scored in the opening 25 minutes as the Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M upset #3 Colorado-Colorado Springs 2-1 on Monday afternoon in front of 201 fans at The Pitch.

"We couldn't have asked for a better start with two goals in first half hour," head coach Chad Webb said. "Our forwards were much better in front of goal today and it showed. Our defense played really well in the second half when they started to have more possession of the ball. We also want to thank our fans for providing us with a great atmosphere."

Jacob opened her scoring account at 1:09 into the game when she got behind the defense on a though ball from Kelley-Lusk. UCCS' Kaylyn Smith made a valiant effort but couldn't stop the redshirt junior for scoring the Lady Buffs first goal of the season. She would have two more chances over the next few minutes but both went wide.

The Lady Buffs doubled their lead at 23:02 when Kelley-Lusk was the benefactor of a UCCS turnover in the final third of the field. The redshirt sophomore made no mistake sprinting past the defenders with the ball at her feet before beating the Smith at the far post for her fourth career goal.

UCCS came close to scoring in the 41st minute off a short corner kick but Courtney Dippel came up huge to block Tarah Patterson's shot from the right shot before blocking Amelia Junge and Fabiola Estrada's chances.

The Mountain Lions got one back in the first five minutes of the second half when Tori Mayhew was the first to react on a rebound in the box. Courtney Dippel made the original save on Savannah Mills' shot but the reflection fell right into the path of Mayhew.

Kelley-Lusk got behind the UCCS defense once again in the 54th to get another breakaway chance but Smith took the correct angle to make the save. The Lady Buffs hunkered down over the final 30 minutes snuffing any good chances for the Mountain Lions to end a three-game losing streak to UCCS.
