Buffs Win Their Fourth Straight on the Road in Laredo, 5-1

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M picked up their fourth straight victory on Thursday night behind three first-half goals as they outlasted the Dustdevils of Texas A&M International, 5-1 at Dustdevil Field in Laredo during Heartland Conference action.

The Buffs wasted little time getting on the board as senior forward Callum Challinor registered his Heartland Conference leading ninth goal of the season on a rebound from a header in the box in the fifth minute to make it 1-0. WT added to their lead in the 36th minute as Julio Vargas chipped a ball over the keeper for his eighth goal of the season to make it 2-0.
 
The final minute of the first half was full of action as Troy Reeves connected on a header from an Ivan Ulloa corner kick to extend the WT lead to 3-0 but the Dustdevils answered just 13 seconds later with a Rafael Montabes header from Cem Izgec in the final second of the half to make it 3-1.
 
The second half was a back-and-forth battle as the Buffs added to their lead in the 87th minute as Reece Schattle found Liam Doyle for the Hampshire, England native to make it 4-1. Schattle put the nail in the coffin just 37 seconds later as the senior registered his second goal of the season for the 5-1 win.
 
Alexander Vencel picked up the win between the pipes for the Buffs (4-0-1) as the sophomore registered a pair of saves on 13 attempts.
 
UP NEXT
The Buffs return to Heartland Conference action on Saturday afternoon as they wrap-up their South Texas road trip against the St. Mary's Rattlers starting at 1 p.m. at Sigma Beta Chi Field in San Antonio. The Rattlers (5-1-2) picked up a 2-0 home win over Eastern New Mexico on Thursday night to move to 3-1-1 in league action.
