The Lady Buffs had the first real chance of the game in the 16th minute on a shot in the penalty area from Khaline Jacob but TAMUC's Caitlin Duty made an impressive save to deny the junior from scoring the opener. Emily Avila opened her scoring account in the 28th minute after Samantha Silvestre was taken down just outside of the box. The freshman took no chances with a rocket to near post as the Lady Buffs took a 1-0 lead. The Lions came close to getting an equalizer in the 31st minute off a corner kick but Rylie Robertson free header went wide of the goal.
WT spend a majority of the second half pressuring the Lion backline before Noir Hawash doubled the lead in the 72nd minute after pouncing on the rebound from Silvestre's shot from distance. The sophomore timed her run perfectly as the ball fell to her right foot for an easy goal as Duty had trouble with Silvestre's shot. It would be 3-0 four minutes later when Jessica Diaz converted from the penalty spot for the second time this season.
Courtney Dippel was great in goal making three saves for her fourth shutout of the season but the backline of Khadisha Debesette, Maliyah Mendoza, Cheyenne Orozco and Silvestre frustrated the Lions offense all game getting into their passing lines and not allowing any easy chances. Jacob finished with a game-high four shots while Silvestre and Diaz had three apiece.
