LAWTON, Okla. – No. 16 West Texas A&M split a doubleheader Saturday at Cameron as the Aggies won the opener 6-5 on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh as the Buffs responded for a 7-4 win in the nightcap. WT improved to 27-9 on the year and 8-2 in Lone Star Conference play, while Cameron stands at 24-15 and 5-7 in league play.

The series was shortened to two games after excessive rain over the last few days in Lawton as the teams were supposed to play a doubleheader Friday. For the doubleheader, the Buffs hit .246 on 15 of 16, while scoring 12 runs with three doubles and one home run. Senior Chad Brown went three for six for the series with a double and one RBI, while scoring two runs. Junior Adam Adkins hit .375 on 3 of 8 from the plate with a run scored and a home run, while driving in four.Â

On the mound, the Buffs at a 5.28 ERA for the doubleheader as senior Joshua Payne earned the win, going 7.1 innings, allowing eight hits, four earned run and fanned five. Junior Marshall Kasowski did not qualify for the decision in the opener as he went six innings, allowing four hits, four runs – three earned, walked five and fanned seven. Sophomore Dominic Yearego picked up the save in the nightcap, going 1.2 innings, fanning five and walking one.

Cameron 6, #16 West Texas A&M 5 (Game 1)

In the opener, the Buffs jumped to a 4-0 lead in the second inning as a bases loaded walk got the inning started. Adkins doubled home two runs for a 3-0 lead and junior Luis Amaro singled home a run for a 4-0 lead as the Buffs left the bags full.

Cameron responded with a two run home run with two away in the bottom of the third as Cody Knight belted a two run shot to left on the first pitch off Kasowski. WT stretched the lead to 5-2 in the fifth on a RBI single from senior Aaron Vallance.Â

The Aggies kept in the game as the Buffs stranded ten batters in the first six innings as Cameron plated two runs to pull within 5-4 as Cole Williams doubled home two runs. The Buffs went down in order in the seventh as senior Justin McAllister came on for the save attempt. In the bottom of the frame, a leadoff single, followed by an out as Cody Bower hit a two run shot to left on a 3-2 count for the walk-off win.

#16 West Texas A&M 7, Cameron 4 (Game 2)
Cameron jumped on the board in the first inning on a double and Bower singled home the first run, followed by a single from Knight for a 2-0 lead. Payne responded with three outs to get out of the inning without further damage.Â

The Buffs cut the deficit in half in the second as Brown doubled home a run for a 2-1 score. WT took the lead with two runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth on a double from senior John Baiada for a 5-2 lead. Cameron responded with a run in the bottom of the frame as Knight hit a home run to left. The Aggies pulled within 5-4 in the eighth on a RBI groundout.Â

Adkins hit a two-run home run in the ninth for key insurance runs and a 7-4 lead. Yearego, who relieved Payne in the eighth, struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth.Â

Payne improved to 7-2 with the win and Yeaego earned his first save of the season.

The Buffs return home to host Tarleton State next weekend beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Wilder Park.  Â
