Season Stats

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 4 West Texas A&M baseball team saw its six-game winning streak snapped Friday evening in a 7-1 loss at No. 8 Angelo State in the first of a four game series at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Stadium.  With the loss, WT fell to 16-3 on the year, while Angelo State improved to 17-2.

The Buffs and Rams are scheduled for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m. to conclude the series.

WT scored one run on three hits for the game with one error, while ASU posted seven runs on eight hits with one miscue.  WT starter junior Marshall Kasowski suffered his second defeat of the season, going one inning, allowing four earned runs on no hits with six walks and two strikeouts.  Sophomore Dominic Yearego pitched the next three innings, allowing five hits, three earned runs, one walk and one strikeout.

Offensively, junior Adam Adkins had two hits to lead the team, while junior Luis Amaro plated the lone run for the Buffs and junior Nick Canas had the third hit.

ASU posted three runs in the first inning as Kasowski fanned two of the first three batters.  Three bases loaded walks plated all three runs.  The Rams added two more runs in the second as Yearego relieved Kasowski following a leadoff walk.  Matt Waller singled home the two runs for a 5-0 lead.

The Rams added two more runs in the fourth as Waller singled home a run and Mitch Henshaw singled through the right side for a 7-0 lead.

The Buffs found life in the sixth as junior Jimmy Cubillos reached on an error, while Canas singled to right and Adkins singled to third to load the bases with two out.  Amaro drew a bases loaded walk for a 7-1 score.  WT left the bases full with a fielder's choice out to end the threat.

Matt Shannon (3-0) earned the win for the Rams, going seven innings, allowing two hits, one unearned run with three walks and six strikeouts as he stymied the high-powered WT offense.  Waller was two for three with three RBI and one run scored, while Elias Aguirre went two for two with two runs scored.
