#7 Lady Buffs Start Fast and Never Look Back as They Sweep Past Texas Woman’s in Canyon

CANYON, Texas – The #7 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M hit four homeruns in the first inning of Saturday's doubleheader and never looked back as they outscored the Pioneers of Texas Woman's, 48-2 on the weekend to sweep past TWU to open Lone Star Conference play. The Lady Buffs move to 17-2 (3-0 LSC) while the Pioneers fall to 9-10 (1-5 LSC) overall.
 
The Lady Buffs hit .532 as a team on the weekend with 13 doubles, nine homeruns and 45 RBI to collect 83 total bases and an incredible 1.078 slugging percentage. The WT pitching staff registered a 0.47 ERA as they allowed just two runs (one earned) on 12 hits with four walks and 15 strikeouts with an opposing batting average of .211.
 
The Lady Buffs return to Lone Star Conference action next weekend as they travel to Stephenville, Texas as they take on the TexAnns of Tarleton State in a three-game LSC series beginning on Friday night with first pitch set for 7 p.m. at the TexAnn Softball Complex.
 
#7 West Texas A&M 16, Texas Woman's 1 (5 Innings)
The Lady Buffs wasted no time jumping out in front in the home half of the first as Ashley Hardin crushed a three-run bomb to left center with no outs followed two batters later by an Allie Smith two-run shot into the Buffalo Corral for the 5-0 led. WT wasn't done yet as Kylee Moore and Shayne Starkey crushed solo bombs for the early 7-0 lead heading into the second.
 
Shea Ibrahim added to the WT lead in the second inning with an RBI double to left field followed by a three-run third inning highlighted by a Hunter Ervin three-run double to center field to extend the lead to 13-0. Hardin continued her big day at the dish in the home half of the fourth inning with a Hardin three-run shot to left field before the Pioneers registered their first and only run of the game on a fielder's choice groundout.
 
Halbet picked up the win (9-0) for the Lady Buffs, giving up one run (unearned) on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts in the complete game win.
 
#7 West Texas A&M 12, Texas Woman's 0 (5 Innings)
WT started off the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as Ibrahim lifted a ball to the warning track in right for a sacrifice fly and the 1-0 lead. The Lady Buffs added to their lead in the second as Moore crushed a solo bomb to right center field to lead off the inning, WT loaded the bases with one out before Hardin and Ibrahim singled home runs followed by a three-run double to center by Maddie Green and a double down the right field line by Moore and a two-run error by TWU to give WT the 10-0 lead.
 
The Lady Buffa added to their lead in the third with an Allie Smith sac fly to center field followed by another Moore homerun, this time a solo shot the opposite way in the fourth with no outs to run the score to 12-0. Alexis Alfonso picked up the win (5-0) for the Lady Buffs, giving up no runs on four hits with no walks and four strikeouts.
