Box ScoreSeason StatsCANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M baseball swept a four game series with visiting New Mexico Highlands Sunday afternoon with a 4-2 victory at Wilder Park. With the win, WT improved to 9-2 on the year, while New Mexico Highlands fell to 1-9.

Matt Cole hit a single up the middle and senior
Nick Chapman laced a double to right center for a 1-0 lead.
An error put Joel Lamont at second in the top of the second for the Cowboys. Trujillo got his second strikeout of the game for two away. On a 3-2 count, Trujillo got Jeremy McCarty to ground out to third to end the threat.
Redshirt freshman
Christian Loya doubled to left in the bottom of the second and a bunt single from junior
Jake Fuller put runners at the corners. Senior
Mason Shiflett hit a sacrifice bunt plating Loya for a 2-0 lead. Junior
Cole Sanchez hit a sacrifice bunt and NMNU went home with it narrowly beating Fuller at the plate for the second out. WT added to the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a leadoff double from Fuller and a RBI single from junior
John Baiada for a 3-0 lead.
The Cowboys put two on with nobody out in the fifth inning. McCarty doubled home two runs to center for a 3-2 score.
Senior
Kyle Tinius relieved Trujillo in the sixth and set the Cowboys down in order. In the bottom of the frame, senior
Matt Cole hit a RBI single to left and advanced to second on an error for a 4-2 lead. The hit by Cole chased starter Max Siedlecki from the game. Siedlecki went 5.2 innings, allowing 11 hits, four earned runs and one walk. Trujillo went five innings, allowing three hits, two earned runs and fanned five.
A bunt single and single began the bottom of the seventh for the Buffs. Fuller singled through the left side to load the bases. A double play ended the threat as the Buffs left two stranded and 11 for the game.
NMHU put one on with one out in the top of the ninth on an infield single and a fielder's choice retired the second out. A strikeout ended the game.
WT belted 14 hits in the game with four doubles as Fuller and Baiada each had three hits in the contest. Fuller was 3 for 4 with a run scored, while Baiada also was 3 for 4 with a run scored and a RBI. Hansen, Loya and Cole each had two hits.
Trujillo (3-0) earned the win, while Tinius picked up his second save of the season going the final four innings, allowing one hit and fanning four.
NMHU was led by McCarty who went 1 for 3 with two RBI. Siedlecki (0-2) took the loss.
The win Sunday marked the first four game sweep of a team for the Buffs since Tarleton State in Canyon last season and the first of a non-conference team since McMurry in 2014.
The Buffs will continue their 11-game home stand next weekend in a three game series against Oklahoma Christian beginning Friday at 5 p.m. with a single game, followed by a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
