LUBBOCK, Texas – West Texas A&M trailed by as many as 27 points in the second half before putting together an incredible comeback on Thursday night but a hot shooting effort by Lubbock Christian gave the Chaps the victory, 95-86 to hand WT their first loss of the season in front of over 400 fans at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock, Texas. The Buffs fall to 5-1 overall while LCU improves to 2-2 on the season.

The Buffs were led by
David Chavlovich with a game high 26 point as the junior went 9-of-21 from the floor including 4-of-13 from deep and 4-of-9 from the free throw line to run his career point total to 1,216 to move the Arlington native into sixth place all-time to pass Mike Mitchell (1967-69 – 1,197) while sitting just 11 points shy of Maurice Cheeks (1975-78 – 1,227) for fifth place.
Joseph Prince scored 16 points in the loss followed by
Jordan Evans (15) and
Skyler O'Laughlin (10). WT went 27-of-72 (37.5%) from the floor including 11-of-39 (28.2%) from deep and 21-of-31 (67.7% from the free throw line to go along with 37 rebounds (18 offensive, 19 defensive), 13 assists, 16 turnovers and 11 steals.

Lubbock Christian was led offensively by Brennan Fowler and Tyler Rogers with 17 points each followed by Ja'Qualyn Gilbreath (14), Ridrell Holman (12), Jay Workman (11) and Marcus Arrington (10) in double-digits while Fowler grabbed a game high 13 rebounds for a double-double. LCU went 32-of-52 (61.5%) from the field including 6-of-12 (50%) from deep and 25-of-30 (83.3%) from the charity stripe to go along with 38 rebounds (four offensive, 34 defensive), 17 assists, 25 turnovers, one block and five steals.
