12 Different Buffs Score in a 105-66 Rout of Oklahoma Panhandle State on Tuesday Night in Canyon

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M scored 105 points for the third time under head coach Tom Brown and tied the highest point total since 2009 on Tuesday night as 12 different Buffs scored in a 105-66 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State in front of over 600 fans at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas. The Buffs move to 6-1 overall while the Aggies fall to 2-2 on the season.
 
The Buffs turned the ball over on their first possession followed by an OPSU jumper before Skyler O'Laughlin connected on a jump hook in the lane at 2-2, a Jordan Evans steal turned into a three from the top of the key by the junior before another Aggie turnover led to another Evans three at 8-2. An OPSU miss led to an O'Laughlin slam from Carl White before the Aggies ended the WT run with a three from the wing at 10-5, O'Laughlin scored again as White registered his fifth assist in under three minutes of play to force a Panhandle timeout with 17:08 left. The teams traded misses after the break before Evans hit another long ball at 15-5 before another Panhandle turnover took the teams into a media timeout with 15:40 left.
 
The teams traded turnovers after the break followed by an OPSU three-point play at 15-8 before a WT turnover gave the ball back to the Aggies, Panhandle cut into the lead with a slam followed by another Buffalo turnover but the Aggies gave the ball right back with 13:44 left and WT leading 15-10. Joseph Prince ended the WT drought with a floater in the lane but OPSU was fouled on a three-point attempt as Jace Kerr hit two-of-three to cut the lead to 17-12, the Buffs missed on their trip down the floor followed by another Aggie freebie before White knocked down a long ball off an inbound pass at 20-13 followed by an OPSU bucket headed into a media timeout with 11:58 left and WT leading 20-15.
 
David Chavlovich found Ryan Quaid under the bucket for a layup followed by a Panhandle turnover that led to another Quaid bucket at 24-15, Tommy Gove forced a turnover but a WT giveaway that led to a pair of Aggie free throws followed by two misses by the Buffs at the line but White forced a turnover that led to a Jordan Collins layup at 26-17. Malcolm Glanville hit two at the line followed by an O'Laughlin board and bucket before OPSU answered with a long ball followed by a O'Laughlin freebie and a Collins floater. A Panhandle miss led to a Collins transition trey before another Aggie turnover and a WT miss from deep heading into a media timeout with WT leading 34-24 with 7:13 remaining.
 
Collins found White for a bucket followed by another Panhandle turnover before misses on both ends, Drew Evans hit two free throws followed by an Aggies turnover and foul as Prince hit two freebies at 40-24. Kerr hit a baseline jumper followed by a D. Evans slam from Tommy Gove and a Garrett Brockman steal that led to a D. Evans fast break layup from Eric Golightly Jr. at 44-26 before a OPSU bucket forced an Aggies timeout with the Buffs leading 44-28 with 4:30 left. WT missed from deep after the break followed by a Buffalo foul to head into a media timeout with 3:54 left in the half.
 
Kerr knocked down one-of-two at the line after the break followed by a Quaid bucket and a Panhandle miss before another Aggie foul led to a pair of D. Evans free throws at 48-29, Jaeden Whitfield hit a three from the corner followed by a Brockman layup and misses on both ends before a Collins steal and score ran the WT lead to 52-32. Panhandle answered with a long ball from the wing followed by a pair of White free throws with 1:25 left, Kerr answered with two at the line followed by misses on both ends before an OPSU foul led to two D. Evans free throws before four points by the Buffs off of turnovers including an Eric Mosley layup heading into the half with WT leading 60-37.
 
The Buffs went 22-of-38 (57.9%) from the floor in the first half including 5-of-15 (33.3%) from deep and 11-of-14 (44%) from the free throw line with 19 rebounds (nine offensive, 10 defensive), 16 assists, eight turnovers, no blocks and 11 steals. D. Evans led the Buffs at the break with 12 points including six free throws followed by Collins and J. Evans with nine points each while White and J. Evans grabbed three rebounds each.
 
OPSU went 11-of-21 (52.4%) from the field including 4-of-9 (44.4%) from deep and 11-of-14 (78.6%) from the charity stripe with 10 rebounds (one offensive, 10 defensive), six assists, 17 turnovers, one block and five steals. Kerr led all players with 13 points at the break followed by Devonta Brooks and Riyadh Asad with six points each while Brooks led all players with four rebounds.
 
White found Evans for a layup to start the second half followed by an OPSU miss before Chavlovich knocked down a transition three from the win for his first points of the game, the teams traded turnovers followed by a Panhandle miss from deep that led to a Prince three from O'Laughlin at 68-37. O'Laughlin rejected a Panhandle shot followed by an OPSU technical foul on the bench as J. Evans hit one-of-two at the line at 69-37, WT turned the ball over as OPSU turned it into points before Prince hit a three with 17:21 left to run the lead to 72-39. The teams traded misses and turnovers headed into a media timeout with 15:58 left and WT leading 72-39.
 
Prince connected on a baseline jumper after the break followed by a White steal-and-slam before a WT foul that led to a pair of Aggie free throws at 76-41, Golightly Jr. registered his first bucket before Panhandle answered with a long ball followed by a D. Evans layup headed into a WT timeout with 13:48 left and the Buffs leading 80-44. Panhandle knocked down a jumper after the break followed by a WT shot-clock violation but Chavlovich stole the ball away and D. Evans connected on a layup at 82-46, OPSU turned the ball over again heading into a media timeout with WT leading 82-46 with 11:58 left.
 
O'Laughlin hit one-of-two at the line followed by misses on both ends and a Panhandle fast-break layup at 83-48, Chavlovich hit a three from the wing followed by another OPSU miss that led to a Collins layup with 10:15 left. Panhandle knocked down a long jumper followed by a Brockman three from the corner at 91-50, Brockman drew a charge followed by misses on both ends before a Golightly Jr. steal-and-score with just over eight minutes left. Rylan Gerber hit a transition three followed by a Panhandle bucket and a WT turnover that led to an Aggie layup heading into a media timeout with WT leading 96-54 with 6:56 left.
 
Golightly Jr. hit one-of-two at the line followed by a huge block by Mosley and a missed dunk by the Aggies before a WT turnover and OPSU bucket at 97-56, WT missed from deep and fouled on the other end of the court as Panhandle hit one-of-two at the line followed by a D. Evans layup from Brockman at 99-57. The Aggies hit two at the line heading into the final media timeout of the game with WT leading 99-59 with 4:17 left.
 
OPSU missed two free throws after the break followed by a WT turnover as the Aggies hit one-of-two at the line before Mosley forced a turnover, D. Evans continued his hot night with a layup followed by a Panhandle layup at 101-61. WT missed under the bucket followed by a Quaid rejection but the Buffs missed again with 2:30 left, Kerr added to his point total with a bucket that led to a Quaid layup at 103-63. OPSU hit a three from the corner followed by a WT turnover before Mosley stole away a Panhandle pass with 41.4 left in the game, D. Evans slammed home a finish for the 105-66 win. It marks the third time under Brown that the Buffs scored 105 points in a game and it ties the most points scored in a WT contest since December 3, 2009 against East Central (119-111, 3 OT).
 
The Buffs went 40-of-68 (58.8%) from the floor including 11-of-24 (45.8%) from deep and 14-of-20 (70%) from the free throw line to go along with 38 rebounds (13 offensive, 25 defensive), 24 assists, 21 turnovers, three blocks and 20 steals. D. Evans led all players with 22 points as the freshman went 8-of-12 from the floor followed by Prince and J. Evans with 12 points each while Chavlovich led the Buffs with six rebounds.
 
OPSU went 22-of-48 (45.8%) from the field including 6-of-16 (37.5%) from long range and 16-of-24 (66.7%) from the free throw line to go along with 22 rebounds (five offensive, 17 defensive), 10 assists, 30 turnovers, three blocks and 12 steals. Brooks led the Aggies with 18 points followed by Kerr with 17 while Brooks grabbed 10 rebounds for the double-double.

The Buffs continue their homestand this weekend as they host the 2016 Pak-A-Sak Thanksgiving Classic at the First United Bank Center with Wayne State College, Southern Nazarene and Eastern New Mexico taking part in the event. WT will take on Wayne State College at 2:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon followed by a Saturday matchup with Southern Nazarene (2:30 p.m.) while Eastern New Mexico takes the court at 12 p.m. on both days.
