PORTALES, N.M.  – The Buffs allowed two second half goals for only second time this season as they fell 2-1 to rival Eastern New Mexico on Saturday afternoon in their final match of the regular season. Junior Simon Sebbah scored his third of the season for WT as they lost on the road for the first time since Sept. 15. With the loss, the Buffs drop to 13-4-1 and 10-3-1 in Heartland Conference play while ENMU improves to 7-7-4 (5-6-3).
"It was a very disappointing effort from the team today," WT men's soccer head coach said. "We came out flat in nearly every facet of the game. Simon did a good job to get us a level after falling behind early in the second half. We have to put this one behind us and focus on Tuesday."
The Buffs best chance of the first half came in the 2nd minute on a shot from Jake Wiffen but ENMU's keeper James Gutierrez was up to the task. WT's only other shot on goal came at 11:29 on a header from Christian Suthers.
The Buffs finished the first half with a 3-1 advantage in shots, two of those being on-target.
Junior Gabe Williams got the Buffs off to a hot start in the second half forcing Gutierrez to make two saves in the opening five minutes but it was the Greyhound who would strike first at 53:09 on a header from Omary Shabani. He  got on the end of a cross from Ignacio Dunn to give the Greyhounds the lead. It was the first goal that WT had allowed in more than 452 minutes.
The Greyhounds lead was short lived as Simon Sebbah got the Buffs on level terms with his third goal of the season at 56:44. The junior midfielder got on the end of Reece Schattle's pass from the left side beating Gutierrez to make it 1-1.
ENMU retook the lead at 68:09 on a goal from Ryan Sinclair just minutes after they went down to 10 men when Waly Elifrance picked up his second yellow card of the match. Sinclair scored his second goal of the season off a free kick from 33 yards out.
The Buffs finished that match with 16 shots compared to ENMU's 8.
Junior Patrick Satorie made one save while facing eight shots.
The Buffs will enter the Heartland Conference tournament as the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 ENMU on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at The Pitch. The winner of that match will play No. 2 St. Edward's on Friday, Nov. 4 at 5 p.m. in Wichita Falls, Texas.
