Debesette Twins’ First Half Strikes Propel Lady Buffs to Fourth Straight Victory

ODESSA, Texas – Sophomores Khadidra and Khadisha Debesette caused problems for UT Permian Basin all over the field leading the Lady Buffs to a 2-0 on Friday night in Odessa. The Rousciallac, Trinidad & Tobago natives each scored a goal the first half as WT won their fourth straight match. With the win, the Lady Buffs improved to 7-4 and 5-2 in Lone Star Conference play as UTPB remained winless at 0-10-1 (0-7).

"I don't think we can say enough about what Khadissha and Khadidra do for this team," WT women's soccer head coach Chad Webb said. "Khadidra anchors our defense and is a big threat on corner kicks as she showed tonight. I felt like we dominated the first half for the second straight match but struggled to keep that momentum going into the final 45 minutes. If we are going to continue to win, we need to improve on that."

WT came out firing as sophomore midfielder Khadidra Debesette had two shots in the first three minutes. Marlene van Mourik recorded her first shot of the game at 12:38  forcing UTPB's Katie Conn to make her second save of the match.

The Lady Buffs went ahead 1-0 at 12:58 on Khadisha Debesette's first goal of the season. The sophomore center back got on the end of Karyn Forbes' corner kick placing it perfectly into the far right post just outside the reach of Conn. Khadidra Debesette doubled the Lady Buffs advantage with her fourth goal of the season at 38:40 after a nice ball from Forbes.

The Lady Buffs finished the first half with a 11 shots, four of those coming from Khadisha Debesette.

WT struggled to find any rhythm in the second half as they only generated two shots while UTPB found a way to cause problems offensively. The Falcons outshot the Lady Buffs 9-2 in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net thanks to a valiant effort from the backline that included Lucy Chalgren, Khadidra Debesette and Brady Prescott.

Sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Dippel finished the match with 10 saves picking up her first shutout of the season. It marks the second time this season the Belton, Texas native has had 10+ saves in a single match.

The Lady Buffs will look to defeat Angelo State on their home field for a second straight when the two teams face-off on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.
