CANYON, Texas –
The #7 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M started out the game on a 12-2 run and never looked back as they cruised past the rival Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico, 67-45 on Saturday afternoon during Hall of Champions Weekend at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas. The Lady Buffs move to 19-1 (8-1 LSC) with the win while the Greyhounds fall to 7-11 (2-6 LSC) overall.
 
The Lady Buffs started off the scoring with a Sasha Watson bucket on their firsts possession followed by turnovers by ENMU on their first two possessions before misses on both ends to give the possession back to the Lady Buffs as a Greyhounds foul allowed Watson to hit two at the line at 4-0, ENMU gave the ball away again as Michaela Neuhaus hit a three from the corner followed by a WT foul as Kassandra Harris hit a freebie at 7-1. Watson responded with a transition bucket followed by another WT foul as Harris hit one-of-two followed by an ENMU turnover and an Alie Decker long ball to force a Hounds timeout at 12-2 with 5:53 left.
 
Eastern registered their first bucket of the game right after the break with a Mikaehla Connor layup before a Zantaya Davis layup, ENMU answered with a Sarah Stinnett jumper followed by a Lilley Vander Zee jumper in the paint at 16-6. The teams traded misses on their next two possessions before Miranda Moore jumper was followed by a Neuhaus long ball from the wing at 19-8, Madison Parker grabbed a defensive board followed by an ENMU technical as Neuhaus hit two freebies and a Hannah Alexander steal-and-score for a three-point play at 23-8 after one quarter of play.
 
The teams traded misses to start the second quarter followed by turnovers on both ends before a Johna McClelland board and score was followed by another Neuhaus trey at 26-10, the teams traded bad possessions followed by a McClelland turnaround jumper in the paint and a WT turnover with 7:04 left. Misses on both ends led to a Neuhaus transition jumper from Decker followed by an ENMU turnover and foul at 28-12, WT gave it back with an illegal screen call followed by another Hounds turnover but the Lady Buffs gave it right back with a walk heading into a media timeout with 4:47 left in the half.
 
ENMU missed a jumper in the paint after the break followed by a Decker three from the corner to run the lead to 31-12, Eastern missed again under the basket followed by a Hounds foul as Maddison Wild hit two freebies before a Harris bucket to end the Eastern drought but Decker answered immediately with a three at 36-14. Decker stole away an ENMU pass but WT gave it right back with an offensive foul but the Hounds couldn't find the bottom of the net but the Lady Buffs committed another turnover with 51.4 left in the half, a WT foul led to Stinnett hitting two at the line to force a Lady Buffs timeout with 25 seconds left and WT leading 36-16. WT added to their lead right before the break as Watson drove the lane and finished with an acrobatic move to give the Lady Buffs the 38-16 lead.
 
The Lady Buffs went 13-of-22 (59.1%) from the floor in the first half including 6-of-10 (60%) from lone range and 6-of-7 (85.7%) from the free throw line to go along with 13 rebounds (one offensive, 12 defensive), eight fouls, 10 assists, 10 turnovers, three blocks and seven steals. Neuhaus went 4-of-7 from the floor and 3-of-5 from deep to lead the Lady Buffs with 12 points at the break followed by Decker with nine and Watson with eight.
 
ENMU went 6-of-26 (23.1%) from the field including 0-of-5 (0%) from lone range and 4-of-6 (66.7%) from the charity stripe to go along with 17 rebounds (10 offensive, seven defensive), eight fouls, three assists, 12 turnovers, one block and three steals. McClelland, Stinnett and Harris all scored four points for the Greyhounds in the first half while Stinnett grabbed three rebounds.
 
An Eastern foul to start the second half allowed Wild to hit two at the line followed by an ENMU turnover that led to a Neuhaus trey from the wing at 43-16, the teams traded misses followed by a Hounds shot-clock violation and a Davis bucket and foul as the senior finished off the three-point play at 46-16. ENMU missed from deep followed by a Lady Buff turnover as Connor registered Easter's first points of the half on a steal-and-score, WT gave the ball back with a turnover but ENMU missed from deep again as Decker hit two freebies followed by an Eastern turnover heading into a media timeout with 4:39 left and WT leading 48-18.
 
Wild hit two at the line after the break followed by a Connor long ball for Eastern's first trey of the game at 50-21 before Alexander hit one-of-two at the line at 51-21, the teams traded bad possessions before Vander Zee hit one at the line followed by a Jasmine Hotchkins long ball at 52-24. Vander Zee hit two freebies followed by a McClelland bucket and a WT foul as McClelland hit a free throw at 54-27, WT missed again as Jaylyn Cooper knocked down a jumper just inside the arc followed by a Reagan Haynes jumper in the lane before Cooper hit a trey at the buzzer to cut the WT lead to 56-32 heading into the fourth quarter.
 
ENMU missed from deep to start the fourth quarter followed by a Watson bucket and a Greyhounds turnover, the Lady Buffs missed under their basket followed by an ENMU miss from deep before Watson found Madison Parker for an easy layup at 60-32. ENMU gave the ball right back with a turnover followed by a McLain long ball from the wing before Stinnett hit a baseline jumper with just over seven minutes left. Davis hit two at the line followed by a McLain steal but the Lady Buffs couldn't convert as they missed from deep, Stinnett hit a three from the wing to head into a media timeout with 5:25 left and WT leading 65-37.
 
Parker stole away an errant ENMU pass after the break heading into the last media timeout of the game with 4:41 on the clock, Taylor LaCour stole away a Hounds pass followed by a WT miss and foul as Stinnett hit two at the line before another WT miss with 3:30 left. Kassandra Harris hit two at the line for the Hounds followed by misses on both ends and two missed ENMU free throws, LaCour drove the baseline and finished with a layup followed by a Eliza Martinez bucket with just under a minute left before a WT turnover and Harris hitting two at the line to end the game 67-45.
 
The Lady Buffs went 20-of-52 (38.5%) from the floor in the game including 8-of-14 (57.1%) from deep and 19-of-22 (86.4%) from the free throw line to go along with 37 rebounds (13 offensive, 24 defensive), 19 fouls, 15 assists, 17 turnovers, three blocks an 15 steals. Neuhaus went 5-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-6 from deep to lead the Lady Buffs with 15 points followed by Decker with 11 and Watson with 10 while Wild grabbed a team-leading six rebounds.
 
ENMU went 15-of-46 (32.6%) from the floor in the game including 4-of-15 (26.7%) from deep and 11-of-16 (68.8%) from the free throw line to go along with 31 rebounds (11 offensive, 20 defensive), 22 fouls, six assists, 23 turnovers, four blocks and five steals. Stinnett went 3-of-16 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe to lead the Hounds with 11 points followed by Harris with eight while Stinnett led the team with five rebounds in the game.
 
The Lady Buffs return to action on Wednesday night as they host the Angelo State Rambelles with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. at the First United Bank Center in Canyon. WT will look to avenge their only loss of the season as they fell to the Belles (64-69) back on January 13th at the Junell Center in San Angelo. ASU will enter Wednesday's game with an overall record of 13-5 with a 6-2 mark in LSC play following a 81-61 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday in San Angelo.
