CANYON, Texas –
The sixth ranked Lady Buffs used a regulation buzzer-beater long ball by Madison McLain to send the game into overtime then WT and the rival Belles of Angelo State battled it out for 15 more minutes of game time before ASU came away with a 112-111 thrilling triple overtime victory in front of over 1,000 fans at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas. The Lady Buffs fall to 19-2 (8-2 LSC) on the season while the Belles sweep the regular season series from WT as they improve to 14-5 (7-2 LSC) overall.
 
Wednesday night's triple overtime contest marks the longest game in Lady Buff history dating back to the 1980-81 season, WT's only double-overtime contest came on February 5, 2001 when the Lady Buffs topped Tarleton State (103-82) at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon prior to the First United Bank Center opening in 2002.
 
The teams traded misses from deep to start the game followed by turnovers on both ends as a WT give-away under the basket led to a Christina Robinson jumper on the baseline for the first bucker of the game, Michaela Neuhaus answered with a jumper just inside the arc before KeAnna Kelly hit a three from the wing to run the Belles lead to 5-2. ASU grabbed a defensive board on a WT miss from deep that led to a Brea Mitchell bucket before Sasha Watson answered with a coast-to-coast layup, the teams traded bad possessions followed by a Kelly layup and foul as the sophomore completed the three-point play at 10-4.
 
The teams traded misses again followed by a Lady Buff turnover as Jasmine Prophet scored underneath followed by a Neuhaus transition three from the corner at 12-7, ASU answered again with a Prophet transition layup followed by misses on both ends and a Maddison Wild bucket. ASU missed again as Neuhaus hit another long ball followed by a steal from the senior that led to a Watson bucket to tie the game at 14-14 heading into a media timeout with 2:35 on the clock.
 
The Lady Buffs took a 7-0 run into the timeout as they missed from deep after the break followed by a Belles steal before WT gave it back with a three-second call with 1:46 left, the teams traded turnovers followed by a Lexi Murphy steal-and-score with a foul as the junior misses the freebie but ended the WT run to give Angelo the 16-14 lead. Hannah Alexander hit a jumper just inside the arc at the top of the key followed by a Lilley Vander Zee rejection but the Lady Buffs gave the ball back with a shot-clock violation to end the quarter with the teams tied at 16-16.
 
WT missed under the basket to start the second followed by an Alexander rebound and Watson fast break layup at 18-16, ASU gave the ball back with an errant pass out of bounds that led to an Alexander three from the wing followed by another Belles miss and a Vander Zee freebie at 22-16. Taylor Dorsey stopped the WT run with a layup followed by a Zantaya Davis board and score and a Belles turnover with 7:02 on the clock, Watson found Alie Decker on the wing for a wide-open trey followed by an ASU miss from deep and another Decker three to force an Angelo timeout with WT leading 30-18 with 5:57 left.
 
The teams traded turnovers followed by a WT foul as Kelly hit three free throws followed by a WT offensive foul and another Belles turnover followed by a WT give-away as the teams traded personal fouls with 1:38 left in the half. Watson found Davis under the bucket for an easy layup followed by misses on both ends before Neuhaus rejected an Angelo fast break attempt but ASU kept possession as Robinson hit a baseline jumper heading into a timeout with 24 seconds left and the Lady Buffs leading 32-23. After the break, Watson drove the lane and finished with a layup heading into the half with the Lady Buffs leading 34-23.
 
The Lady Buffs went 14-of-38 (36.8%) from the floor in the first half including 5-of-11 (45.5%) from long range and 1-of-2 (50%) from the charity stripe to go along with 30 rebounds (14 offensive, 16 defensive), six fouls, 10 assists, eight turnovers, two blocks and six steals. Neuhaus and Watson scored eight points each for the Lady Buffs in the first half followed by Decker and Alexander with six each while Davis grabbed six rebounds in the first half.
 
ASU went 9-of-30 (30%) from the field including 1-of-11 (9.1%) from deep and 4-of-5 (80%) from the free throw line to go along with 16 rebounds (six offensive, 10 defensive), four fouls, seven assists, nine turnovers, three blocks and four steals. Kelly went 2-of-4 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the free throw line to score nine points in the first half while Prophet grabbed six rebounds in the first half.
 
Prophet started off the scoring in the second half with a board-and-score on ASU's first possession followed by a WT miss before the Belles gave it back with an errant pass but WT missed again followed by a Dorsey three from the wing at 34-28, the Lady Buffs gave it back with a travel followed by a Mitchell long ball and another WT miss and another ASU three to tie the game at 34-34 heading into a WT timeout with 7:21 left in the third. Watson found Wild under the bucket to stop the ASU run followed by misses on both ends and a Dorsey layup at 36-36, the teams traded turnovers again heading into a media timeout with 4:57 on the clock.
 
WT gave the ball back right after the break followed by a Kelly three from the corner before Alexander found Vander Zee for an easy layup at 38-39, Mitchell added to the Belles lead with a three from the corner followed by a Decker jumper in the paint and a Prophet layup at 40-44. Davis hit two at the line followed by an ASU miss before WT gave it back with a three-second call with 2:11 left, Robinson knocked down a baseline jumper followed by an Neuhaus three from the top of the key to make it 45-46. Mitchell connected on another bucket followed by a Madison Parker layup and a McLain steal heading into the fourth quarter with the Belles leading 48-47.
 
The Belles turned the ball over to start the fourth quarter followed by a WT miss from deep as Mitchell responded as the senior completed a three-point play to run the ASU lead to 51-47, Wild hit one-of-two at the line followed by turnovers on both ends as Mitchell found Prophet under the basket for a layup at 53-48. Davis cut into the lead with a bucket followed by a Decker steal that led to Watson hitting two at the line before a Davis rejection and a Decker three to give WT the 55-53 lead, the Belles missed on an inbound play followed by another Decker three to force an Angelo timeout with WT leading 58-53 with 6:36 left.
 
Decker stole away an errant Belles pass after the break but WT missed from deep as Prophet hit two at the line followed by misses on both ends and a WT foul as Mitchell hit two freebies to cut the lead to 58-57, WT missed under the basket as Angelo retook the lead with a Mitchell three from the wing before Davis answered with a layup at 60-60. Prophet knocked down two at the line before Watson responded with a bucket and foul as the junior finished off the three-point play at 63-62, Angelo responded with a three-point play of their own by Kelly followed by a WT turnover and an ASU miss before Decker hit a three in the corner heading into a timeout with 1:51 left and the Lady Buffs leading 1:51.
 
Mitchell gave the Belles the lead again with a jumper from the wing just inside the arc followed by a Davis offensive board and foul as the senior hit two from the line to give WT the 68-67 lead with under a minute left, Prophet answered with a board and bucket as WT advanced the ball past half court heading into a timeout with 25.6 seconds left. The Lady Buffs couldn't convert as Angelo rejected a WT shot and the ball went out of bounds to send the referees to the monitor to check the possession, ASU was awarded the ball followed by a Lady Buff foul as Kelly hit both at the line with 10.2 left. The Lady Buffs tied the game as McLain grabbed an offensive rebound and sprinted outside of the arc to nail a game-tying three with 0.1 seconds left to send the teams into overtime, 71-71.
 
The Lady Buffs scored the first points of the extra period as Watson hit two from the charity stripe followed by a Dorsey bucket at 73-73, Neuhaus answered as the senior hit a trey from the wing followed by a Belles miss from deep and another Neuhaus three at 79-73. Angelo missed from deep again as Decker grabbed a defensive board and was fouled as the Wichita State transfer hit two at the charity stripe to run the WT lead to 81-73, WT missed two from the line followed by a Kiahna Thompson three from the corner to head into a timeout with 2:20 left and WT leading 81-76.
 
WT gave the ball away with an offensive foul followed by a Prophet bucket to cut the lead to 81-78 followed by another WT miss underneath with 1:21 left, Dorsey responded with a layup to cut the lead to one heading into a Lady Buff timeout with 49.1 left. Neuhaus found Davis under the bucket as the Belles fouled as Davis hit one-of-two with 38 seconds left followed by a Thompson bucket with 26.7 left. Watson drove the lane and foul Davis under the basket for an easy bucket with 3.6 second left heading into ASU's final timeout followed by an Angelo attempt from deep before an offensive rebound and score by Dorsey to send the teams into the second overtime tied at 84-84.
 
WT started the scoring at the charity stripe again to start the second overtime as Watson hit two freebies followed by a WT foul and Diamalises Rivera hitting two at the line at 86-86, Watson responded with a floater in the lane followed by an ASU offensive board as Rivera hit two more at 88-88. The Lady Buffs missed from deep followed by a Belles missed layup that led to a Wild layup with 2:31 left, Rivera answered again with a bucket followed by a WT turnover and foul as Thompson hit one-of-two at the line to make it 90-91. Wild answered with an offensive board and foul as the junior hit both freebies followed by an ASU miss in the paint and a Watson pull-up jumper as the shot clock expired at 94-91 heading into a timeout with 21.6 left. Mitchell hit a contested three from NBA range to tie the game at 94-94 with 8.2 seconds left as the Lady Buffs advanced the ball to midcourt with a timeout, Watson missed a jumper with just under a second left as the teams headed to the third overtime tied at 94-94.
 
Watson started the scoring in the third overtime with a jumper in the lane followed by a Robinson three from the top of the wing as the shot clock expired to give ASU the 97-96 lead, McLain answered with a three from the wing followed by a Dorsey layup before a Decker transition bucket at 101-99. ASU missed from deep followed by a Neuhaus transition three from the corner before the Belles answered with a Rivera bucket and foul as the senior finished the three-point play at 104-102, Neuhaus hit another three from the wing followed by an ASU offensive board and three from Mitchell at 107-105. The Lady Buffs gave the ball away with a turnover that led to a Dorsey layup before a McLain jumper in the lane with just under a minute left, Thompson answered with a three from the wing heading into a WT timeout with 24.7 left.  Watson found Wild under the bucket after the break as ASU fouled and Wild hit two freebies at 111-110 with 21.6 seconds left, ASU retook the lead with a Rivera layup with eight seconds left as the Belles took a 112-111 win.
 
The Lady Buffs went 38-of-88 (43.2%) from the floor including 15-of-29 (51.7%) from long range and 20-of-25 (80%) from the free throw line to go along with 53 rebounds (25 offensive, 28 defensive), 20 fouls, 27 assists, 18 turnovers, three blocks and 11 steals. Neuhaus and Watson scored 23 points each for the Lady Buffs followed by Decker (21), Davis (15) and Wild (11) in double-digits while Davis grabbed 13 rebounds for the double-double.
 
Angelo State went 40-of-86 (46.5%) from the field including 12-of-29 (41.4%) from deep and 20-of-22 (90.9%) from the charity stripe to go along with 46 rebounds (19 offensive, 27 defensive), 20 fouls, 24 assists, 18 turnovers, four blocks and eight steals. Mitchell went 10-of-19 from the floor and 6-of-11 from deep to lead all scorers with 29 points followed by Prophet (18), Kelly (17), Dorsey (17) and Rivera (11) in double-digits while Prophet finished with a double-double as she grabbed 10 rebounds.
 
The Lady Buffs return to action on Saturday afternoon as they make their longest Lone Star Conference road trip of the season with a trip South to take on the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas at the Steinke Center in Kingsville, Texas with tipoff set for 4 p.m. The Javelinas will enter the weekend with an overall record of 5-14 (0-9 LSC) as they topped Eastern New Mexico (67-42) on Wednesday night in Portales.
