With the win, the Lady Buffs improved to 11-2 on the year and 2-1 in Lone Star Conference play, while Angelo State fell to 5-9 and 0-4 in league play.
WT was led by 18 points and 10 rebounds from senior
Chontiquah White who tallied her sixth double-double of the season. Sophomore
Sasha Watson added 11 points with four assists and three steals, while junior
Danielle Logan added 10 points with two triples. The Lady Buffs shot 43.4 percent from the field on 23 of 53. They were 7 of 23 from range and were 27 of 37 from the line. WT won the battle of the boards 42-28 and led 28-6 in points in the paint and 16-5 in second chance points with 15 offensive rebounds.
Angelo State was led by 11 points form Jasmine Caston. She was 3 of 13 from the field with two triples and went 3 of 6 from the line as the only Rambelle in the double figures. WT held ASU to 14 of 48 from the field for 29.2 percent. ASU had seven triples and 14 of 21 from the line.
A triple from sophomore
Sasha Watson gave WT an early 9-4 lead with 17:12 remaining in the first half as the Lady Buffs made their first three shots. WT swelled the lead to 13-5 holding ASU to 0-7 from the field through the first 5:40.
A triple from Jasmine Caston at the top of the key was the Rambelles' first field goal as they started 0 for 10. WT Senior
Chontiquah White scored at the other end for a 17-8 lead with 12:20 left in the first half. White led the team with six points and five rebounds to that point.
A triple from Amanda Weaver cut the WT lead to 19-16 and a timeout by WT with 9:01 left in the first half as WT went cold from the field converting one of its last nine and two of its last 11 as ASU used a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to three.
Senior
Danielle Logan ended the run with a triple in the corner for a 22-16 lead out of the timeout. ASU responded in kind with a triple from Michelle Rosewell for a 22-19 score with 6:33 left. Former Angelo State Rambelle
Haylee Oliver buried a triple for a 27-21 lead with five minutes left in the half. Weaver again had the answer with a long ball at the other end.
After two free throws by White, she took a charge at the other end for the seventh turnover by ASU in the half as WT held a 31-26 lead with 1:44 left. Caston pulled ASU within 21-29 with 1:24 left with a triple. Two free throws by Logan at the other end pushed the lead to 33-29. White scored an off-balance jumper for a 35-29 lead with 35 seconds left. Watson drove to the hoop at the buzzer and got the members' roll for a 37-30 lead at intermission.
For the half, the Lady Buffs were led by 12 points from White on 3 of 6 from the field, 6 of 6 from the line and she added seven rebounds. WT shot 39.1 percent from the field on 9 of 28 after starting 3 for 3. The Lady Buffs were 3 of 9 from range and a season-high 16 of 20 from the line for a half. WT had 21 rebounds.
ASU was led by 11 points from Caston on 3 of 8 from the field with two triples and three free throws. The Rambelles were 9 of 28 from the field for 32.1 percent, 5 of 8 from beyond the arc and 7 of 10 from the line.
Out of the second half gate, the Lady Buffs were on fire capped with a triple from Logan capping a 7-0 run to start the half and a timeout by the Rambelles. WT swelled the lead to 16 with a bucket in transition from Watson for a 9-0 run. WT extended the run to 17-4 through the first five minutes of the second half and a 54-34 lead with 15:03 to play.
White buried triple for a 59-37 lead as WT extended the run to 22-7 for the half with 12 minutes left and went on for the 31-point win.
