Josh Ashley begins his first season as an assistant women's basketball coach at West Texas A&M.
Ashley most recently served as assistant woman’s basketball coach at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, Okla. He began his duties at EOSU in August of 2012 and helped lead the Lady Mountaineers to a 21-12 record in 2014-15.
He was tasked with handling scouting reports, implementing a yearly strength and conditioning program, monitor academic eligibility of student-athletes, organize camps, and manage various fundraising activities.
No stranger to the Lone Star Conference, Ashley spent two seasons as the men’s basketball graduate assistant at Angelo State University from 2010-2012. There, he helped with on-the-floor recruiting and administrative duties. He also assisted the men’s basketball strength and conditioning program. He earned his master’s degree (M.Ed.) in coaching, sports recreation and fitness administration in August 2012.
Ashley graduated with honor from Tarleton State University with a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports studies in December 2008. While at Tarleton State, he interned with the TSU strength and conditioning program and worked with track and field, basketball, baseball and football.
He is a native of Kilgore, Texas, where he starred in both football and basketball at Kilgore High School. He and his wife Tish have two children, Josiah who is three and Kaleb who is one.
“We are pleased to have Coach Ashley and his family join our staff,” WT head caoach Kristen Mattio said. “When I first met Coach Ashley, his competitiveness and composure really impressed me. He has a great rapport with the players he has coached, and I know he is definitely ready for the challenge of continuing the tradition of Lady Buff basketball. He knows the Texas area and the Lone Star Conference, while coaching a few years in Oklahoma which will definitely help in our recruiting efforts. I couldn’t be more excited to have Coach Ashley on board.”
