COACH MATTIO ON SWOOPES
"Our staff was very patient with what we were looking for in this position and we feel Zada is going to be a special player at West Texas A&M," Mattio said.  "She is a competitor, plays the game with a lot of passion and her versatility on the court will allow us to use her in multiple positions.  She is a strong combo guard/forward who can shoot the 3, put it on the floor to score at the rim and shoot the pull up jumper.  With her athletic frame, Zada will make an impact on both ends of the floor.  She is a tremendous student in the classroom and we are excited to have her at West Texas A&M."

Swoopes averaged 18.3 points and nine rebounds a game as a junior for head coach Landon Dyer ... Swoopes was named All-Texomaland Girls' Newcomer of the Year, while being named district Most Valuable Player, all-state and all-region honors ... Swoopes helped lead her team to a 24-11 record last season ... Her brother, Tyrone, is a senior quarterback at the University of Texas ... She also competed in volleyball and track & field where she was no stranger to winning in those sports, too, as she won a state championship in the discus ... In the classroom, Swoopes is on the honor roll and a member of BETA ... Swoopes comes from a basketball and athletic family as she has been coached by her mother Elizabeth Swoopes throughout her career and played AAU basketball for Triumph Gold and coach Steve Adams.
