Biography


2010: Cockrell led the nation in saves with eight as a sophomore in 2010, making 28 appearances with 10 starts and four complete games for the Lady Buffs. She finished the season with a 10-0 record with a 1.85 ERA, striking out 129 batters in 90.2 innings of work while only walking 46 batters. She allowed an opponent batting average of .200 with 12 doubles and 10 homeruns. Cockrell’s eight saves tied the conference record for saves in a season, tying her with Amanda Payne from Southeastern Oklahoma in 1997. Her best day in the circle came against rival Eastern New Mexico on April 18 when she threw the second no-hitter in WT history against the Zias on their home field, striking out eight with two walks in the 12-0 victory. For her efforts on the diamond, she was named a member of the All-Lone Star Conference Second Team.

2009:
Cockrell carried an impressive 2.92 earned run average and posted a 9-6 record while striking out 92 opponents in 23 appearances during her first season as a Lady Buff. She started in 10 games, turning in eight complete games. Cockrell collected her first collegiate win in her first start on February 7th against Texas-Permian Basin. In four innings, she recorded six strike outs, yielding no earned runs in the 13-1 victory. She picked up the first save of her collegiate career on March 17th against Fort Hays State. Cockrell came into the circle in relief and halted the late seventh inning rally by the Tigers. She turned in her best pitching performance of the season on February 13th against Texas-Permian Basin, giving up no earned runs, while striking out a season high ten batters in the 10-0 victory.

High School:
Cockrell attended Pearland HS (Texas) where she enjoyed an outstanding prep pitching career for the Lady Oilers under head coach Michell Hyden. During her senior campaign, she was named First Team All-District and helped PHS to the District 24-5A Championship, striking out 166 opponents. Cockrell also played volleyball while at Pearland HS.

Personal:
Cockrell is the daughter of Brian and Donna Cockrell and she has two brothers, Justin and Tyler. She is majoring in Animal Science at West Texas A&M.
