2010: Russell became a staple in the Lady Buffs infield as a junior in 2010, seeing time in 55 games with 50 starts at third base during WT’s historic run to the NCAA South Central Region Finals. She finished the season with a .328 batting average with 11 doubles, one triple and 18 RBI for a slugging percentage of .440. In the field, she registered a .944 fielding percentage with 47 putouts and 104 assists. Russell led the team in sacrifice bunts (3) and hit-by-pitches (6). Her best offensive game came against UT-Permian Basin on March 31, going 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBI and she scored two runs in the 16-2 victory. For her efforts on the diamond, she was named Honorable Mention All-Lone Star Conference. Russell also excelled in the classroom, being honored with a spot on the LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll and an NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete.
2009: Russell appeared in just 25 games during her sophomore season, where she started in 18 of them at third base. She tallied 12 hits, two doubles, one home run, scored 14 runs and drove in a total eight runs in 47 at-bats. At third base, Russell collected 18 put-outs and 31 assists for a fielding percentage of .907. She had a season two-hit performance, going 2-for-3 with one run scored in a win against Angelo State on March 21 and blasted her first and only home run of the season in an April 15th match-up against Oklahoma Panhandle State.
2008: Russell appeared in 56 games during her rookie campaign, drawing 49 starts, with 36 coming at third base, 11 at shortstop and two as the designated player. She had a .212 batting average, with one double, one home run and 11 RBIs in 132 at-bats. She hit one home run for the season, coming in a 2-for-3 appearance with two RBIs at Texas-Permian Basin. Russell had a season high three-hit performance, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs in a win over Southwestern, Okla. on Feb. 22. She tied that two RBI mark with a pair against Angelo State on March 15. She went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double against St. Edwards.
High School: Russell attended Colleyville Heritage HS (Texas) where she was selected First Team All-District following her junior and senior seasons. She had a .408 batting average with seven doubles, three triples and one home run as a senior. She maintained a slugging percentage of .571 and an on base percentage of .452. Russell stole five bases and drew five walks. She was very solid defensively, committing only three errors in over 80 chances.
Personal: Russell is the daughter of Andrew and Bonnie Russell and she has one sister, Lisa. She is a Marketing major at West Texas A&M.
