Ty Riles enters his third season for the Men's Basketball team as the Student Assistant Coach and his first season on the sideline for the Lady Buff Volleyball team as the Student Assistant of Operations and Recruitment Visits.
Riles graduated Cum Laude with his Bachelor's degree in Arts and Sciences in the spring of 2023 from West Texas A&M and obtained his Associates degree in Business Management from Amarillo College. Riles is currently working towards his Masters in Sport Management at West Texas where he'll have gained a solid understanding of the sports industry through coursework that focuses on event organization, sport marketing, and sport analytics.
Riles has been an active member of the university’s men's basketball team for the past two seasons, where he's developed strong teamwork, leadership, and time management skills. Additionally, he has volunteered as a coach and organizer for various youth basketball tournaments for Hoop 10 of Amarillo and assisted with different summer camps during his time in the panhandle.
In 2022-23 the Buffs finished the season with a 27-7 record, appearing in the third round of NCAA DII Tournament. The Buffs also secured the Lone Star Conference Regular Season title and its sixth consecutive Lone Star Conference Tournament title, hosting the South Central Regional Tournament making it to the Championship game.
In 2021-22 the Buffs finished the season with a 29-7 record, appearing in the NCAA DII Tournament for the programs 20th time. The Buffs also made another historic postseason run after becoming the only program in Lone Star Conference history to win five straight conference tournament titles.
As a student assistant, Riles' goals are to gain valuable hands-on experience in the sports industry and contribute to the success of the athletic department and student-athletes. In the future, Riles will aspire to pursue a career in sport management, leveraging his skills and passion for sports to make a positive impact in the industry.
