Assistant Strength and Conditioning coach Matt Segura begins his fourth year at WT.  He was hired in December, 2014.

During his time in Canyon, Segura has been one of the key components of success for the cross country/track & field, men's basketball and softball teams that have won two national titles, two regional champions, one Final Four appearance and numerous Lone Star Conference Championships.

In 2017-18 alone, he worked with the women's track & field team that won the 2018 NCAA Division II Indoor title and the men's basketball program won the LSC Regular Season and Tournament title and South Central Regional Championships en route to the Final Four.

He comes to Canyon from the University of Michigan where he was a graduate strength and conditioning coach from June 2012 to August 2014.  

He graduated with his master's degree in exercise physiology from Eastern Michigan University in 2014.  Prior to graduate school, he was an intern for the University of Michigan from January 2012 to May 2012.

Before Michigan, he was the head strength and conditioning coach at Butte Junior College from August 2009 to December 2011.  There, he was responsible for program design and implementation for the football team for three seasons, as well as softball for one season. 

He earned his bachelor's degree in exercise physiology with a minor in nutrition from Chico State in 2009.

The Santa Maria, Calif., native, has certifications including SCCC, RSCC, CSCS, CPR/AED, as well as being certified as a weightlifting coach (USAW-1) and a track and field coach (USATF-1).
