Biography
GENERAL - Burns has proven his long distance shooting abilities (hitting a team-high 59 three-pointers last season), as well as his durability (averaging more than 29 minutes over 27 contests a year ago). He returns for the 2009-10 campaign as the Buffs[apos] scoring and assist leader.
2008-09 - An LSC South honorable mention honoree, Burns averaged 11.2 points per contest over the full season and saw his output jump to 13.2 ppg. in LSC play and was the Buffaloes[apos] leading scorer in five of their six LSC South wins. He earned LSC South Player of the Week honors for Jan. 26, after his 18-point, six rebound performance at Tarleton State (scoring 10 of the Buffs[apos] final 14 points) and a 19-point, four steal performance against Midwestern State. He hit 17 points in a pair of wins over Eastern New Mexico and recorded a career-high 21 points to go with six rebounds in the Buffs[apos] 77-63 win over Abilene Christian. Burns showed his mettle by hitting a 15-foot jumper with 0.7 seconds remaining to give WT a 77-76 win over South Dakota in the Holiday Inn-WT Thanksgiving Classic. He notched 20 points against Southwestern Oklahoma, including hitting 6-of-10 three-pointers. At Adams State, in his first collegiate outing, he recorded a double-double in his first game in a WT uniform, scoring a team-high 18 points to go with a game-high 11 rebounds, of which all were of the defensive variety. Burns hit 17 points at Texas A&M-Kingsville, doled out seven assists against Central Oklahoma, tallied 14 points at Texas A&M-Commerce, scored 11 points on four occasions (at Abilene Christian, against Texas A&M-Kingsville, Northeastern State and at East Central). He also had a season-high five steals at East Central and dished a season-high seven assists against Central Oklahoma. In addition to his scoring, he led the Buffs in steals (33) and was second on the squad in defensive rebounds (84).
JUNIOR COLLEGE- Burns spent the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons as a starting point guard at Seward County (Kan.) Community College. Over 38 games, he averaged 32.2 minutes, 12.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game while leading the Saints to a berth in the 2007-08 NJCAA Final Four.
HIGH SCHOOL- The Portland, Ore., native attended Portland (Ore.) Benson HS. As a shooting guard, he earned all-League honors while leading head coach Troy Berry[apos]s team to a 25-6 mark as a senior. Burns also lettered four seasons in football while at Benson High.
PERSONAL - Burns is the son of Pamela Dieringer and Terence Burns of Portland, Ore. He is a General Studies major at WTAMU.
