2012: Higgins was named a Beyond Sports Network (BSN) Division II Preseason Second Team All-American before the 2012 season.

2011: Higgins brought some Division I experience to the WT defense as a junior in 2011, seeing time in all 11 games for the Buffs. The University of Texas transfer registered 34 tackles (11 solo, 23 assisted) with 5.5 of them coming behind the line of scrimmage, he also registered two sacks to go along with seven hurries and one forced fumble against Texas A&M-Kingsville at Cowboy Stadium. Higgins was named a member of the All-Lone Star Conference First Team for his efforts on the field as well as being honored with a spot on the All-LSC Academic First Team.

PREVIOUS SCHOOL: Higgins spent two seasons (redshirted in 2008) on the field for the Texas Longhorns, seeing time in 13 games including two starts. The Schertz, Texas native registered 16 tackles (five solo) for his career at UT to go along with one sack and two tackles for loss.

HIGH SCHOOL: Higgins graduated from Clemens HS (Texas) in 2007, playing defensive end and defensive tackle under the guidance of head coach Greg Ferrara. He was a versatile two-sport letter-winner at CHS who recorded 205 tackles and 12 sacks during his final two prep seasons, helping the team to a 24-3 record during that span. He was tabbed a 2^nd Team Class 4A All-State selection by the Texas Sports Writers Association and Honorable Mention 4A All-State by The Associated Press during his senior season. Higgins also lettered for two years in track & field, participating in the shot put and discus where he was a two-time Regional Qualifier in the shot put.
