GENERAL: The always smiling Evans, a first-team all-LSC selection, provides a solid anchor at one corner position in the Buffaloes’ secondary unit. Dedicated in the weight room, as well as on the field, the Amarillo, Texas, native was recognized as a 2009 NSCA All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete.
2009: Evans, who served as a defensive team captain, was a 12-game starter at cornerback, logging 72 tackles (49 solo, 23 assisted) for the season. He had a career-high nine tackles on three occasions (vs. TAMU-Kingsville, vs. Angelo State, vs. Nebraska-Omaha), while also registering three interceptions for 89 return yards. His longest return was a 64-yard pick-and-run at Midwestern State. He had two PBUs at Central Washington, while logging a total of six breakups over the season. He also forced a pair of fumbles, one against TAMU-Kingsville and one against Eastern New Mexico.
2008: Playing at cornerback, Evans recorded 15 tackles (nine solo, six assisted) over 12 contests. He received four starting assignments (at Central Oklahoma, against Southwestern Okla., at TAMU-Kingsville and against Tarleton State). He had a season-high four stops against Tarleton State, as well as recovering a fumble against the Texans. He also logged a season-best two pass breakups at Eastern New Mexico, one of four which he swatted for the season.
2007: Evans saw action in 12 contests, recording 18 tackles for the season (11 solo, seven assisted). A strong coverage back, he also broke up three passes while forcing a lone fumble.
2006: Redshirt season.
HIGH SCHOOL: Evans was a three-sport athlete for Amarillo’s Palo Duro HS. As a senior in 2005, he garnered all-District honors after registering 55 tackles and a pair of interceptions. For that effort, he was honored with a spot on the Amarillo Globe News Super Team. Evans also completed in basketball and track & field.
