GENERAL: The rugged Thompson has been a quality running back in the Buffs’ offensive backfield, and, over his career, has averaged over five yards every time he touches the football.
2009: A true all-purpose back, Thompson maintained a trend which saw him average an impressive 5.2 yards per rushing attempt. In addition to his 529 net rushing yards, Thompson also compiled 231 receiving yards to averaging 95.0 all-purpose yards per contest. gained a team-high 529 yards and six TDs over eight contests, while averaging 66.1 yards per game and 5.2 yards per rushing attempt. He has also compiled 231 receiving yards to average 107.1 all-purpose yards per contest. He registered his second career 100-yard rushing performance when he gained a career-high 132 yards on 17 carries at Southwestern Oklahoma State. At #7-Tarleton State, he averaged 7.0 yards on four carries.
2008: While seeing action in all 13 contests, Thompson gained 430 all-purpose yards. He rushed for 226 yards on 51 carries, averaging 4.4 yards per carry, while also catching 13 passes for 141 yards. Thompson also returned 11 kickoffs for 61 yards, with a long return of 26 yards. He recorded his first career 100-yard outing when he gained 106 yards against Azusa Pacific. That game saw him gallop a career-long 92 yards for a TD. He posted 85 all-purpose yards against Abilene Christian, with the majority coming via four receptions for 51 yards. For the season, Thompson registered four TDs, all via the ground, scoring one apiece against Azusa Pacific, Midwestern State, at Eastern New Mexico and against Abilene Christian.
2007: As a redshirt-freshman, Thompson saw action in all 13 contests, gaining 171 yards on 37 carries. He scored a pair of TDs while averaging 4.6 yards per carry and 13.2 yards per game. His high-yardage effort was a two-carry, 51-yard outing against Adams State, a game that saw him break a 44-yard TD jaunt. He also had a four-rush, 44-yard game against Tarleton State and an eight-carry, 33-yard, one TD outing against Eastern New Mexico. Receiving, he caught eight passes for 56 yards, with a long of 23 yards.
2006: Redshirt season.
HIGH SCHOOL: Thompson played both running back and free safety for Mineral Wells (Texas) HS. He ran for 2,200 yards as a senior and was honored as District Offensive MVP and co-MVP as well as garnering first team all-District honors at safety. Thompson also lettered in basketball and track & field.
MAJOR: Thompson is a Management major at WTAMU.
