Markelle Martin enters his first season as the outside linebackers coach at WT after spending last year at Humboldt State working with the cornerbacks.
Before joining the Lumberjacks, Martin spent the 2015 season as a defensive graduate assistant at his alma mater Oklahoma State. Before working on the defensive side, Martin spent the spring of 2015 as an offensive staff assistant.
Before returning to Stillwater, Okla., Martin served as a safeties and defensive backs coach at S.H. Rider High School in 2014.
Martin was a three-year starter on defense for OSU where he earned American Football Coaches Association 1st Team All-American honors as a senior in 2011. He starred as a safety for a Cowboys’ team that lead the nation with 44 force fumbles. He finished the season with 74 tackles, 11 pass breakups, two forced fumbles and one recovered as the Cowboys won the Big 12 Champions and defeated Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl. He was a Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist and earned All-Big 12 1st Team honors.
Martin was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the sixth round (190th overall) of the 2012 draft. He later signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League in 2014.
