2016: Played in all 11 games at linebacker for the Buffs ... Tallied 45 tackles with 28 solo stops ... had 3.5 tackles for loss for 16 yards, led the team with three forced fumbles and returned a fumble for 35 yards and a touchdown against Tarleton State (9/24) ... Had one quarterback hurry and one pass breakup ... Tallied a season-high eight solo stops, nine total tackles and two forced fumbles in the season finale at Western New Mexico (11/12).

2015: Played in eight games with seven starts for the Buffs...Finished tied for third on the team in tackles with 61...Recorded 30 solo stops, with 5.5 tackles for loss for 10 yards, one pass breakup, one pass defense and one quarterback hurry...Had one fumble return at Oklahoma Panhandle State...Earned honorable mention all-conference honors...Named to LSC Academic Honor Roll.

2014: Led the team in tackles as a redshirt freshman earning LSC Freshman of the Year honors.  Named second team all-conference.  Tallied a team-high 125 total tackles and 50 solo stops.  Had a team-high 11.5 tackles for loss for 50 yards and recorded three sacks for 23 yards to tie for the team-lead.  Rushed the passer four times and had one pass breakup.  Tallied a career-high 21 tackles against Midwestern State (Oct. 11) with nine solo stops, including a season-high three tackles for loss and a sack.  For his efforts, he earned LSC Defensive Player of the Week honors.  Finished 18th nationally in tackles at 11.4 per game.

2013: Redshirted. 

Northwest High School: Played for head coach Bill Patterson and helped lead the Texans to an 8-3 record which was a school-record for wins as a senior.  Was a two-time all-district selection.  Named 2011-2012 Defensive Team MVP.  Named 2012-13 Wise County Messenger Defensive Player of the Year.  Also participated in baseball and powerlifting where he lettered twice in both.

Personal: Born January 17, 1995.  Parents are Bob and Melissa James.  Has two siblings Jeannie Johnson and Christy Taylor.  James graduated in August 2016 from WT and now working on a master's degree in finance and economics.
