2010-11
Unruh averaged 14.7 points and pulled down 2.3 boards in the first three games of the season, but was then forced to sit out the remainder of the 2010-11 campaign following a season-ending knee injury. The former all-American is scheduled to make a healthy return to the court in 2011-12.
2009-10
Unruh recorded averaged a career-high 13.9 points a game in her junior season with the Lady Buffs, averaged 5.3 rebounds a game and shot a steady 48.6% from the field on her way to being named the Lone Star Conference South Division’s Player of the Year in 2009-10. She made 13 three-pointers while shooting 28.3% from beyond the arc. She made 76.1% of her attempts from the charity stripe and averaged a little more than five (5.3) rebounds a game. Unruh led the team with 116 assists and 104 steals and was named a WBCA all-America Honorable Mention selection at the end of the season.
2008-09
After earning a starting position in only her second season as a Lady Buff, Unruh averaged 26.1 minutes per game. She averaged 9.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game as a guard. From the field, she shot 45.6%, making 120 baskets in 263 attempts, with 10 made field goals coming from behind the three-point line. From the charity stripe, Unruh was 67-88 for 76.1% accuracy. Unruh was second on the team in rebounds, pulling down 77 offensive boards and 113 defensive boards for a total of 190. She also recorded 61 assists and five blocks and led the team in steals with 72. She enjoyed career-high outings against Angelo State and Southeastern Oklahoma with 19 points and 13 rebounds, respectively. Unruh tallied three double-double outings last season, with double-digit points and rebounds against Southeastern Oklahoma, Midwestern State, and Abilene Christian. Unruh was named as an all-LSC Honorable Mention honoree. She was also named to the LSC South Division all-Academic team.
2007-08
In her freshman debut, Unruh saw action in 30 games and started in three contests. She totaled 212 points, averaging 7.1 points per game. She went 75-166 (.452) in field goals, 48-71 (.676) from the free throw line, and 14-35 (.400) from behind the arc. She averaged 4.5 rebounds, totaling 135 offensive and defensive boards. She enjoyed a career high of 18 points against Northwest Missouri in postseason action.
High School
Unruh was named Amarillo High's Female Athlete of the Year for two-consecutive years and also earned second-team all-District honors as a junior and first team all-district as a senior. She was named to the Amarillo Globe News 5A Super Team and recognized for her academic success by being named to the 5A State Academic Team. Unruh graduated in the top 10% of her class and was a member of the National Honor Society. She also lettered in volleyball for three years and track for four years, helping the volleyball team to a State Championship her senior year. She was named second-team all-District as a junior and first team all-District as a senior in track and was a Regional qualifier for four years in that sport.
Personal
The daughter of Beth Unruh, Joni has five siblings; Carrie, Justin, J.B., Beau, and Dixie. She is a biology major.
