Eric Dorton returns to WT in 2015 after a year away. He currently is working on his MBA at WT.
Dorton is no stranger to WT baseball as he played for two years for the Buffs in 2011 and 2012. In 2011, he was third on the team with a .405 average as the Buffs led the nation in batting average as a team. He had 64 hits with nine doubles, three triples and four home runs, while driving in 29 and scoring 53 runs. He earned second team Daktronics All-Region honors and was a LSC honorable mention selection.
In 2012, Dorton finished with a .340 average, led the team in stolen bases and was named to the LSC All-Academic Team. He was named the 2011-12 WT Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Following graduation with a degree in sports and exercise science, he stayed on and was a volunteer coach for the Buffs in 2012-13.
Prior to WT, Dorton attended and graduated from Lamar Community College (Colorado) in 2010 as he played for head coach Scott Crampton helping lead his team to a conference title. Dorton was a first team all-region and all-conference selection as Lopes finished 48-12. He also attended Eastern Arizona College in 2009 leading the team in stolen bases and average at a .320 clip. He was named team MVP.
Originally from Alamogordo, New Mexico, Dorton eanred first team all-state honos in high school and was ranked #1 in New Mexico by Perfect Game Baseball coming out of high school and was ranked 319th (56th OF) nationally. Dorton attended the University of New Mexico right out of high school in the fall of 2008 before transferring to Eastern Arizona.
He is the son of James and Eileen Dorton and has two siblings.
