CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M sophomore
Mia Hammerschmid used a three-foot birdie putt on the 54
th and final hole to claim a win at the 2026 WinStar Invitational at WinStar Golf Club (Par 72 – 6,218 Yards) in Thackerville, Oklahoma.
The sophomore from Düsseldorf, Germany claimed her second collegiate victory with rounds of 72, 70 and 70 for a 212 (-4). Tuesday's final round saw Hammerschmid finish with four birdies capped off by a great approach shot to just three feet for the win on the 384-yard par four 18
th hole.
Monica Del Valle Pena climbed up to a tie for 14
th on the leaderboard with a 74 (+2) in the third round, finishing with three birdies as two of them came on the back nine where she shot an even 36.
Tasnim Smaili put together her best round of the tournament on Tuesday with 12 pars along with a birdie on the 308-yard 10
th hole.
The Lady Buffs finished tied for third with Midwestern State on the team leaderboard with a team total of 890 (+28). Host DBU shot a -8 (856) to win the event by 18-strokes over St. Mary's (874, +10). Madison Ude of DBU and Taylor Wilczek of St. Mary's finished tied for second overall with a -3 (213).
The Lady Buffs return to the course on September 28-29 as they host the annual West Texas A&M Invite at La Paloma Golf Course in Amarillo, Texas.
