CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M tallied 12 birdies and an eagle during the opening round of the WT Desert Invitational at Ventana Canyon Club (Par 72 – 5,802 Yards) in Tucson, Arizona with WT sitting second on the team leaderboard.
 
Mia Hammerschmid is coming off a victory at the Palm Valley Classic on Friday and Saturday as the freshman from Germany had six birdies during Monday's opening round for a 71 (-1) to sit third on the individual leaderboard.
 
Cal State East Bay shot a 287 (-1) to hold an eight-stroke lead over the Lady Buffs +7 (295). Chantel Tsai of CSU East Bay fired a 68 (-4) during the opening round to hold a two-stroke lead over teammate Carlota Eroles (-2, 70).
 
The Lady Buffs will be paired with Angelo State and Cal State East Bay during Tuesday's final round with a shotgun start beginning at 10:00 a.m. CT.
