Buffs Drop a Friday Doubleheader to Lubbock Christian

CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes dropped both games of a Friday afternoon Lone Star Conference doubleheader to the Lubbock Christian Chaps at Wilder Park in Canyon, Texas.
 
The Buffs and Chaps close out their Easter Weekend series on Saturday with first pitch of the finale set for 1:00 p.m.
 
Game 1 – Lubbock Christian 7, West Texas A&M 5
The Chaps jumped out to an early lead in the top of the second inning as Owen Alsup doubled off the left field wall to drive in Ryan Gargett followed by a Freddie Nolen double to right, LCU wasn't done yet as Roe Forrest drove in a run for the 3-0 lead.
 
Lubbock Christian added to their lead in the top of the fourth inning on a Carlos Mauldin RBI single to right center followed by a Dylan Marx base hit that scored Forrest at 5-0.
 
WT responded in the home half of the fifth with Anthony Picciano lifting a sac fly to left field that score Tristin Thomas followed later in the frame by a Jacob Police grand slam that stayed fair inside the left field foul pole to tie the game at 5-5.
 
The Chaps came up with a big two-out swing in the top of the sixth inning off the bat of Kyle Lewis that drove in a pair for the 7-5 advantage.
 
Cade Griffin claimed the loss (7-2) for the Buffs, allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits with two walks and six strikeouts in his 5.2 innings of work.
 
Game 2 – Lubbock Christian 6, West Texas A&M 0
LCU got on the board in the top of the first inning, taking advantage of WT defensive miscues with Hudson Grace scoring to make it 1-0. The Chaps added four runs in the fourth inning highlighted by a Forrest two-run triple to left center for the 5-0 lead.
 
Lubbock Christian pushed across an insurance run in the sixth with Forrest connecting on a solo homerun off the net past the right field wall for the 6-0 advantage.
 
Nick Yeager claimed the loss (1-4) for the Buffs, allowing six runs (one earned) on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts in his 5.0 innings of work.
