#7 Lady Buffs Top the Falcons on Senior Day in Canyon, 73-66

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M closed out the regular season with another home victory on Saturday afternoon as four different Lady Buffs finished in double-figures in a 73-66 Lone Star Conference win over the UT Permian Basin Falcons at the First United Bank Center on Senior Day.
 
West Texas A&M began the first quarter by quickly matching UT Permian Basin in a back-and-forth contest, with both teams exchanging leads twice and tying the score twice. Chloe Callahan was a key player, contributing significantly with a successful jumper and a crucial three-pointer at the 1:39 mark to level the score at 12-12.
 
Despite falling behind, the Lady Buffs maintained pressure, with Taylor Haggan's offensive rebound and tip-in giving them a brief 15-14 lead. However, a late jumper by UT Permian Basin resulted in West Texas A&M trailing 16-15 at the close of the quarter.
 
WT started the second quarter by gaining a brief lead with Randi Harding's three-pointer at 8:16, bringing the score to 19-18. The team demonstrated strong defense, with Kyla Kane contributing a block at 7:56. Despite their efforts, UT Permian Basin responded with a scoring run, including a three-pointer by Kenadi Rising at 7:05, which shifted the momentum.
 
Chloe Callahan's free throws at 6:51 tied the score at 21, maintaining pressure on the visitors. Kenadee Winfrey's three-pointer at 3:48 provided a crucial boost, narrowing the gap to 28-24. As the quarter wound down, Winfrey scored again with a layup at 1:19 to tie the game at 28. However, UT Permian Basin closed the quarter with a layup and a three-pointer, leaving the Lady Buffs trailing 33-28 at halftime.
 
West Texas A&M seized momentum early in the third quarter with a strong defensive play, highlighted by multiple steals, which resulted in fast-break opportunities. Taytum Bell's layup at 6:55 and Claire Graham's free throws tied the game at 37-37. Randi Harding then hit a crucial 3-pointer at 5:47 to give West Texas A&M a lead they would not relinquish.
 
Continued pressure from the home team led to additional turnovers, allowing them to extend their advantage. Harding and Kenadee Winfrey each added a 3-pointer, pushing the lead to 46-41. The Lady Buffs maintained their composure at the foul line, with Graham converting key free throws to close the quarter. WT led 50-46 at the end of the third quarter.
 
WT began the fourth quarter by capitalizing on UT Permian Basin's turnover with a steal by Randi Harding. Although a brief exchange of turnovers followed, the Lady Buffs maintained composure, with Kyla Kane securing two free throws to regain the lead at 52-50. Kane further extended the advantage with a fast-break three-pointer and a jump shot, contributing to a 7-point lead.
 
Midway through the quarter, the Lady Buffs continued to build momentum. Randi Harding's jumper and Kenadee Winfrey's layup expanded the lead to double digits. Claire Graham added a three-pointer, pushing the score further in favor of WT. Despite a late scoring attempt by UT Permian Basin, the Lady Buffs maintained a solid defense, highlighted by a block from Chloe Callahan.
 
WT closed the quarter securing free throws from Abbi Holder, solidifying a 73-66 victory. The team outscored UT Permian Basin 23-20 in the final quarter, maintaining control and closing with a decisive lead.
 
Randi Harding scored 18 points, making 6 of 11 field goals and 3 of 5 from beyond the arc while adding two steals. Claire Graham contributed 12 points and made 6 of 8 free throws, also dishing out three assists. Kenadee Winfrey recorded 11 points on 4 of 6 shooting, including two 3-pointers, and collected six rebounds. Kyla Kane added nine points and posted two blocks, finishing with seven rebounds.
