ORLANDO, FLORIDA – West Texas A&M Women's Soccer junior
Riley Sims was named Division II Conference Information Directors Association (D2CIDA) Women's Soccer National Athlete of the Week as announced by the organization Tuesday afternoon. Sims tallied four goals with a 14-minute hat trick during the Lady Buffs 2-0 week.
Against St. Mary's on Wednesday, Sims sparked what would be a comeback victory for WT with a goal in the 12th minute. She finished the game with five shots (two on goal) in 74 minutes as the Lady Buffs came back to win 4-3 after trailing 2-0.
On Saturday against Angelo State, Sims was everywhere offensively as she scored in the 2nd, 10th, and 14th minute for the hat trick. The Harker Heights native produced the fastest hat trick in program history in the game-by-game era (2011+). Sims also landed all four of her shots on goal in the game.
For the week, she led the Lone Star Conference (LSC) in goals (4) and points (8) while finishing third in shots with nine. Sims was also named LSC Offensive Player of the Week.
Sims and the rest of the Lady Buffs will be back in action on Wednesday, October 7 as they host No. 8 Midwestern State at The Pitch.
