#3 Angelo State Overpowers the Buffs in the Series Finale

CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M suffered their first Lone Star Conference series sweep in nearly two years on Sunday afternoon as the #3 Angelo State Rams picked up a decisive 23-4 run-rule win at Wilder Park in Canyon, Texas.
 
The Rams got on the board in the top of the second inning as Weston Valasek scored from third on a wild pitch with two outs followed by a Justin Harris two-run single up the middle, ASU wasn't done yet as Jacob Guerrero lifted a three-run homer to left for the 6-0 lead.
 
Angelo State added to their lead in the third as Harris drew a walk with the bases loaded followed by an Ethan Flodstrom two-run double off the wall in right center, Guerrero would lift a sac fly to left that plated Harris followed by a Chase Pendley RBI single to center. Lane Hutchinson would double to left field with two outs to drive in a pair followed by a Tayten Tredaway RBI double for the 14-0 lead.
 
The Buffs finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Dylan Fesperman three-run blast over the center field wall with no outs to make it 14-3. ASU responded with a long ball of their own with Weston Valasek two-run shot the other way in the top of the fifth followed later in the frame by a Brett Smajstrla two-run shot to right for the 18-3 lead.
 
Kyle Micklus hit his 12th long ball of the season in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Waller product lifted a solo shot off the foul pole in right field to cut the lead to 18-4. The Rams would respond in the top of the sixth with a Pendley RBI single to center followed by a Hutchinson two-run double, ASU would continue their big day at the plate in the seventh with solo homers by Harris and Christian Garnette for the 23-4 lead.
 
Julius Carpio picked up the loss (4-1) for the Buffs, allowing six earned runs on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts in his 1.2 innings of work.
 
The Buffs hit the road for the final time in the regular season next weekend as they travel to Laredo, Texas for a four-game series with the Texas A&M International Dustdevils beginning on Thursday afternoon at Haynes Field.
