Mohammed Leads Buffs to Road Victory

ALPINE, Texas – After returning to the lineup, West Texas A&M's Ahamed Mohammed led the Buffs to a 93-66 victory over Sul Ross State in Alpine, Texas. The Buffs improved to 15-9 overall and 10-8 in Lone Star Conference play as the pursuit to Frisco continue.

The Leaders
Four Buffs reached double-digit scoring on Thursday night led by 25 from Ahamed Mohammed. Narit Chotikavanic (18), Nicholas Jett (16), and Mackenzie Morgan (14) also ended their day in double figures.  Noah Pagotoo recorded a game-high nine rebounds and team-high five assists in in the victory while notching a block and an assist.

How It Happened
After a Chotikavanic three to open the game, Sul Ross answered with a bucket of its own. WT answered with a 9-0 run to build a 10-point lead, but the Lobos made a floater ahead of the first media timeout of the game. The Buffs built an 18-4 lead before Sul Ross cut into the advantage where a pair of buckets from Mohammed restored the 14-point lead. As the shooting started to heat up for WT, the defense also stepped up, kick-starting 18-2 run. The Buffs' lead reached a first-half high 32 points when Nicholas Jett knocked down a three from behind the arc.

In the second half, WT's momentum from the first half carried over. A Lobos field goal opened the scoring for the second period before a 10-2 run from the Buffs built a 34-point lead. Sul Ross eventually  brought the lead down to 26 with 12:34 to play. WT's lead got brought down to 23 when the Lobos scored eight unanswered points. With six minutes to play, three three-pointers and a pair of free throws put the Buffs up 36. Sul Ross cut the deficit down, but WT left Alpine with a 93-66 victory.

WT goes to the Land of Enchantment to wrap up its season series with Western New Mexico. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT at Drag's Court in Silver City.
