CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M Associate Athletic Director of Corporate Relations Thompson Mayberry has been named the Interim Director of Athletics effective on Wednesday, May 15^th.
 
Mayberry steps in for Michael McBroom, who announced on April 25th that he was accepting the Athletic Director position at Division I Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches. A 14-person committee of WT administrators, faculty, coaches and staff are tasked with finding a successor to McBroom, learn more here.
 
Thompson has served as the Associate Athletic Director for Corporate Relations since May of 2022, developing partnerships with local, regional and national companies united in supporting the Buffs and Lady Buffs.

Mayberry is no stranger to WT as the Dimmitt, Texas native was a four-year letter winner as a defensive back for the Buffaloes from 1978-1982, winning the Missouri Valley Conference championship in 1979. He graduated from WT with a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing in 1982.  
 
Mayberry joined the WT Athletics staff with over twenty years of sales experience. He has strong professional relationships across the Texas Panhandle with recognized success in sales development. He began his career with Southwestern Public Service Company (now Xcel Energy) and subsequently held roles at Xerox Services, Ingenix and Corporate Systems. He most recently served as Vice President of Sales at OccuNet.  
 
Thompson resides in Canyon with his wife Alice. They have two adult daughters, Taylor and Jordan.
