Alverson Receives College Sports Communicators Grant

CSC Unite Release

CANYON, Texas - West Texas A&M Assistant Director of Athletic Communications Brooke Alverson has been selected as a recipient of the 2024 College Sports Communicators Grant from among more than 150 applicants nationwide across the NCAA. Alverson was one out of 22 College Sports Communicators members that have been selected to receive Convention Attendance Grants and will attend the association's annual convention June 9-12 at Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas.

"I'm incredibly grateful for this opportunity to learn and grow in my profession as a college sports communicator," Alverson said. "I want to thank CSC Associate Executive Director Will Roleson and the CSC committee for this opportunity and Michael McBroom, Brent Seals and West Texas A&M staff and coaches for their unwavering support in this field. I've learned a tremendous amount since switching to the administration side of collegiate athletics and I want to thank West Texas A&M for giving me grace and nurturing me to grow in this role. Above all thanks to God for providing these paths."

Prior to sports information Alverson was an assistant coach for the Lady Buff Volleyball team that won the 2022 National Championship. In one year since switching to the communications side, she has covered five NCAA Divison II National Championships, two Regional Championships and four Lone Star Conference Championships with Lady Buff Volleyball and West Texas A&M Track and Field and Cross Country.

"Brooke is one of the most passionate individuals I've ever come across in this field," Head Cross Country Coach Zach Daniel said. "She does a great job of advocating for our program and student athletes through the content she produces and is a huge part of the success we have had as a track and field program."

For 12 of the recipients, including Alverson, it will be their first CSC Unite convention. Nine are first-year CSC members and two have five or more years of experience in the profession. Each grant includes a complimentary convention registration, allowing the grant funds to go toward hotel nights, transportation and per diem. As part of receiving a grant, each winner will help CSC's convention operations team with on-site duties and provide written reviews of their experience following the four-day convention.
