No. 1 Buffs Roll Past Mustangs

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M men's basketball rolled past Western New Mexico on Saturday at the First United Bank Center, 100-78. With the win, the Buffs improve to 24-1 overall, including 21 straight wins, to remain the only undefeated team in the Lone Star Conference at 18-0.

The Leaders
Three Buffs reached double-digit scoring on Saturday afternoon highlighted by a game and season-high 27 from Zach Toussaint's team-high. Larry Wise followed Toussaint with 25 points while Kieran Elliott added 13. Elliott also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds while Wise and Ahamed Mohammed added eight each.

How It Happened
The opening minutes saw the Mustangs sit in the driver's seat, but the Buffs wouldn't be held quiet for long. A long three from Toussaint at the 15:07 mark gave WT its first lead of the game. WNMU tied the game with 6:02 remaining before halftime but Toussaint gave the Buffs a lead they wouldn't relinquish for the remainder of the afternoon. WT continued to click on offense as a driving layup from Toussaint beat the buzzer and sent the Buffs into the locker room with a 15-point lead.

In the second half, the Mustangs fought back to start the period. An 8-2 run from WNMU brought the game within 11, but WT answered back to extend its lead. With 12:12 left in the game, Wise nailed a three from the corner and drew a foul, completing the four-point play. Down the stretch, the Buffs pushed their lead to a game-high 30 points with 6:46 to play. In the final two and a half minutes, a layup from Cameron Bell put the Buffs at the century mark for the fourth time this season.
