CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M men's basketball continued its win streak on Saturday afternoon with an 83-64 victory over Oklahoma Christian. The Buffs improve to 8-0 on the season and 3-0 in Lone Star Conference play.
The Leaders
Three Buffs reached double-digit scoring on Saturday afternoon led by a team-high 16 from
Amir McMillian and three steals.
Noah Pagotto (15) and
Nicholas Jett (10) also ended their day in double figures.
Bob Griechen recorded a game-high nine rebounds while
Isaac Ayoubi dished out seven assists.
How It Happened
After a battle in the opening minutes, WT used an 8-0 run ahead of the first media timeout to take a 13-8 lead. Over the next few minutes, the Buffs continued to extend their lead, holding a double-digit advantage halfway through the first half. With four and a half minutes to play in the period, a pair of free throws from Mohammed pushed the WT edge to 19. In the final 2:26, the Buffs closed out the half on a 7-2 streak to take a 20-point lead into halftime.
In the second half, the two teams exchanged buckets as the Eagles looked to cut into the lead. After WT extended its lead to 22, Oklahoma Christian used a 10-2 run to bring the game back within 14. The Buffs wouldn't let the Eagles mount a comeback as a 7-0 run restored a 20-point advantage. With the minutes dwindling, WT started to work clock and slow the pace. in the game's final five minutes, the Buffs and Eagles combined for just six points as WT closed out the win.
The Buffs return to action on Sunday, Dec. 15 when WT travels to South Texas for games against Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International.
