CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M men's basketball cruised to a 44-point victory over the Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies on Friday night in Canyon. The Buffs improve to 3-0 on the season with the win.
The Leaders
Five Buffs reached double-digit scoring on Friday night led by a game-high 21 from
Noah Pagotto.
Ahamed Mohammed (20),
Nicholas Jett (13),
Narit Chotikavanic (13), and
Bob Griechen (11) also ended their night in double figures.
Kemper Jones recorded a game-leading nine rebounds with Mohammed posting four assists and Griechen recording four steals.
How It Happened
The Buffs and Aggies exchanged the lead over the first four minutes of the game as a PJ Daniels three sent the teams to the first media timeout of the game. Out of the timeout, an 8-0 run gave WT a lead they wouldn't surrender. Although the Buffs controlled momentum and the game, OPSU didn't led the lead reach double digits until the eight-minute mark when Mohammed made a transition dunk. With three minutes to go in the first half, the Aggies looked to be in position to cut the lead down before halftime. WT extended its lead before the end of the period, finishing the final 2:50 on a 16-point streak.
In the second half, the Buffs kept their lead over 20 points until the 14:50 mark when Chotikavanic made a three to push the lead to 31. The Aggies would bring the lead down into the 20-point range only to be answered by WT buckets. With 3:31 to play, a three from
Mackenzie Morgan put the Buffs over the century mark. Down the stretch, the lead reached as high as 47 before a three from Enzo Edom created the final 44-point differential.
The Buffs hit the road for the first time on Thursday, Nov. 14 against Central Oklahoma. Action with the Bronchos is slated to begin at 6 p.m. at the Hamilton Field House in Edmond, Okla.
